No, I didn't mean models! Show us any modifications you made to your car or truck. Tell us any neat tips and tricks. Send pics of it too if you can. I have a neat little tip. Many of you probably already do it. Take a 1 1/2 inch long peice of fuel tubing and slit one side of it so that it can be sliped over a shock shaft. Now when you grip your shaft with the pliers you won't scar the shaft! But be sure to face the slit away from the pliers so that the tubing dosn't slip off of the shaft when you grasp it.

I have been thinking about adding a roll cage but was worried it would get in the way during general maintenance. Plus the Maxx is heavy enough. It does look REAL cool! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
What kind of body does it wear?

As for the cage, it was made by RC Raven. http://www.rcraven.com
The thing I really like about this particular cage is that it bolts in between the bulkheads, so you get a roll cage and bulkhead braces all in one http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

It does make working on it a pain, and it makes it a little heavier, but I definately say its worth it. Any more questions about my car just ask http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Ok guys heres my two tips and trickswith a pic.
To use bigger sized tires on your stock e/t maxx rims just boil the tires for 5 to 10 minites and stretch them over the rims, As you can see inthe pic i used juggernaut tires.
My next tip is for getting the siver off the maxx rim and making them white.
Just boil the rims and wipe the siver off, nitro fuel also works.
Heres the after picture.

Krazie - the intake manifold, engine mount and spur gear adapter were made at Wolfgang's shop (Wolfpack Radicals). I try not to be a pest and have him do the work, but every time I start working on something, I go too slow for him and he tells me, "get out of za vay!" So, he really made more it than I did. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif It's better for me that he's involved so every time something goes wrong, I can blame him! HAHA! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/eek.gif We've since made a new intake manifold because the one pictured above wont fit underneath the body.

About the speed thing, I was tootin around in the rite aid parking lot on a sunday afternoon and a cop saw it from the road and stopped to see what it was, I asked him if I could do a few passes and he shoot it w/ his gun and lucky enough he said ok.

GT - that's a modified FG 1/5-scale Competition car. The disc brake system is an off the shelf option. It costs about 150 to 175 bucks for each end of the car, so you're looking at around 300-350 if you want these little gems at all four corners.

Steve, I see the Tee and brass compression fittings under the front shock tower... am I correct in assuming that the calipers are hydraulically actuated? How about a shot of the master cylinder? =) Very nice car BTW, you're making my wallet tremble in fear =)

Nairb - well, the photography becomes much easier when you have the right equipment. Thanks.

Gokou - here's the radio tray and master cylinders. BTW - the master cylinders are made by Magura, who makes hydraulic brakes for mountain bikes.

Your not using a double-servo rig forthe steering are you? You should just go for a 1 of the huge Multiplex servos that will do that easy. Single giant servo.

Big Wig
03-23-2001, 04:37 PM
Magura! NICE!

I have a Magura hydraulic clutch on my dirt bike! (2001 KTM E/XC 250 in case anyone is curious http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif )

SteveP
03-23-2001, 04:44 PM
Aussie Man - the double steering servos works much better than a large single servo. The larger servos have enough torque for steering, but they are terribly slow. Installed a pair of Futaba 9450 servos - they're plenty strong enough and they're more than twice as fast as the big servos typically used in these cars. It's more expensive this way, but it certainly works better.

i'm intrested in those servo horns

SteveP
03-24-2001, 06:34 AM
Joe - Those are Dubro heavy-duty molded servo horns. The Hydraulic brakes require a significant amount of torque for hard braking and I was noticing a significant amount of twisting even with the heavy-duty servo arms. I used some 3mm graphite to form the pieces you see bolted on the top of the servo horn to eliminate the deflection when full braking is employed. It works rather well, it's just a little bit of a pain in the rear to makes those little pieces! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/eek.gif

SteveP,
What did you use to cut the graphite? I have always heard that graphite can be a pain to cut.
AMMOACE

SteveP
04-01-2001, 10:57 PM
Graphite IS a pain to cut. I use a fiber cut-off wheel in Dremel for the rough cutting, then do must of the shaping with a bench-top belt sander. The finish shaping is done with a fine-grit Dremel sanding drum and finally a piece of 400 grit sandpaper on a flat surface. I used a very sharp drill bit to punch the holes in the graphite, but it's not sharp anymore if ya know what I mean...

BTW - if you decide to cut graphite on your own, get a VERY good mask (not the cheap ones you find at Home Depot). the cheap ones allow too much material to pass through, and breathing graphite dust is NOT a good thing.
