I was thinking about getting one to play around with. I would like some opinions of this truck, durability.. fun factor.. is it fast with the 540.. is it a well built model.
I have always been a fan of the Tamiya trucks but I have never really bought one, should I break down and buy this one?
got a link to a pic of it?

It is a great-looking truck. Underneath the body is a touring/rally car with tall tires, so off-road it will suffer a good bit on really rough terrain and jumps. If you keep that in mind, it's a fun truck.
You could always convert it to a touring car to double the choices with it.
You might want to consider the Pajero and Race Touareg as a good basher truck that looks scale as well. Those are GREAT crawlers and fun to drive because they are taller and you have to drive them like real trucks (Too fast in the turns means you roll it over).

Frankly I've got to agree with teamae.
You'll be royally pissed if you can't run due to a $0.50 part that you'll have to spend weeks hunting down.
The majority of Rustler/Pede/Bandit parts are interchangeable, and they're quite popular cars, so finding replacement parts would be much easier.

Junk.... tell me more. I think Tamiya makes some of the best scale cars/trucks around, am I wrong? I was planning on locking both diffs and putting a 55t lathe motor in it so I could play around in the ditches.

If you want that, get yourself a Touareg: It has higher ground clearance, lower gearing, and is great for that kind of running.
Since the F-150 is a touring car it's pretty low, and the independant suspension all around doesn't offer a ron of travel.

for one shadow i disagree on your opinion about tamiya making best all around vehicle! TEAM ASSOCIATED ALL THE WAY. i just think tamiya is junk because they base alot of there vehicles off that tt01 chassi more of an onroad chassi, and i dont think they are very durable.the rustler is just the best bang for your buck its rtr with esc and you will be able to do a whole lot more with it. but if you are stuck on tamiya i agree with steve get the tourego. Agin just my .02 cents

I never said they make the best all around vehicle. I said I think they make the best scaled vehicle. What has Associated ever done to make something look realistic and move like a real car? detail? I was just suggesting that they make great model type cars and trucks. I understand that you cannot compare the two with performance but for realism its hard to beat Tamiya.

After some research I believe your right, the Touareg is beater equipted to handle what I will be doing. Thanks Steve.
