The GTX is(currently) Novak's top of the line ESC for racing, so yes, it will do just fine for most ANY form of racing you want to do(you will NOT be at a disadvantage against any other brand of ESC), & no, it does NOT have reverse(just like all competition ESC's). And just to give you an idea about its competitiveness, I'm still running the GTX's predeccessor(the GT7), & I've never felt it put me at a disadvantage(I even know people who still prefer using the older Novak Cyclone series ESC's & they don't suffer for it either).....

REVERSE?
Do you really own a GTX?
THE BEST EVER MADE????
Have you ever seen KO's ESC? You can program the PWM frequency in 31 steps from brake to full throttle. What about TEKIN?
Yes the GTX is very good, but it is far from being THE BEST EVER MADE.
I don't mean to be rude. OK

The GTX is a very good ESC.
Would you be interested on a NOVAK GT7, it is basically the same as the GTX, just a bit larger because it was designed 3 years ago but performance wise and programability they are = :) 98% . I ask because I can get you the GT7 for a very good $$$. NEW w/warranty, sealed. 50% less than the GTX.
If you are interested just PM me.

Sorry everyone the GTX does not have reverse like i had posted before. I was reading the spec chart on page 221 of the tower hobbies 2005 catalog and they have a misprint.

Grizzbob, you are right!
I have 8 GT7's and 4 Cyclones and I cannot complain. I also know that almost no one knows how to program the 7th program in the ESC's and have no idea of what the frequency does. So much technology and people just do not understand it. They go and waist their $$ thinking they will have an advantage. FET's are FET's, the only difference is that they are smaller now but the characteristics of the transistors are still the same. I prefer the GT7 over the GTX...

You know what they say about opinions right? I will not get into a flame war with you since you have already tried to make me look silly. I made a mistake and yes I do have a GTX its about a month old and never been used due to my car being in the building stage.

Why do you recommend a speedo when you have never used it. Do you know how to program NOVAK's ESC's? Do you know what PWM is and what the different frequencies do to a motor?
I'm just wonderying...
I know it sounds rude but I am not being rude to you...I just think that people should comment when they do know what they are talking about. NO HARD FEELINGS, PLEASE :)

shadowghost, my appologies...I came a bit to strong. Too early in the morning and I have a long day...
My company is releasing a new OVAL car next month and we are going to MEXICO to race at their NATIONALS. The whole team stayed up all night since we were building motors...and I was fixing all the electronics...
Anyway, the GTX is a great ESC and you will like it. Just make sure that you use the right program number for your application. It does make a huge difference.
If you ever need any help with the ESC's let me know. A fact, I designed and had one of the first ESC's in 1980...NOVAK did not exhist at that time yet. So I do know a bit about ESCs...all the inns and outs, etc.

For what is worth...
I know both of them and I respect them. Both of them make the BEST ESC's in the market. I never went publicly with my ESC because I was too busy designing computers...I juist bult a few ESCs for myself and team mates. I did not post this as a sign that I am better or anything like that. That is why for the last 25 years I have been using Bobs products (ESC's, receivers, etc...and a few Tekins too (while I was a team driver for Delta).)
BTW, all the people at NOVAK are great, they are helpfull, knowledgeable, friendly, what else can I say...
I just want to clear the air, it was not meant to put down Bob or anyone else that is why I buy his products and I do not continue designing a product that I know that I cannot do better. Like I said, I have been a loyal NOVAK customer for 1/4 of a century. Easily I have owned over 30 or 40 ESCs made by NOVAK...and his chargers too.
My apologies to NOVAK.

guys is there anything i need to buy to go with the gtx im running a monster stcok engine do i need capacitors etc??????????
ikraj

The GTX comes out of the BOX with everything you need. The schottky diode is installed internally so you do not have to solder one to the motor. About the Capacitor (electrolytic) the GTX comes with the right one, just follow the instructions and you will be just fine. The GTX is an excellent ESC. and the set of programming options that you have will allow you to set your ESC top your driving style.

BTW, I would recommend that you use profile #3, that is the default and it will work great with your Monster motor.

I recommend you solder directly. You have one of the best EScs, why drop a few mv through connectors...anyway solderinfg motors and batteries is as easy as can be. I never use connectors (over 25 years)

Novak didn't sell an esc till 1985 - http://www.teamnovak.com/timeline/timeline_1/index.html
Nick Adams of Demon Products in the uk was selling esc before 1982
The best esc available will be the MRT MX soon, it will have on-resistance all others can only dream of.

Connectors are much simpler at the track. Don't need to haul around a generator just to get AC for your soldering iron.
I use corally style connects. The have virtualy no difference.
I would rather lose 2 seconds of duration than risk missing my race because of soldering problems. It's safer too.

I 've been using a GTX for 4 months, since my IPC super sport broke on me after only two weeks
It was expensive, but worth it. It hasn't missed a beat yet, and the 7 program settings really help on a dry, slick offroad track like the one I race on. I used Tamyia connectors and stick packs for a while with it and had no problems, but I just had them converted to staright packs and will hard wire them from now on. This is my second Novak speed control (my first I got over 14 years ago) and they seem to be pretty good :)
