hi, i hope this is not too off topic but i was wondering if someone would be kind enough to recommend a radio system for me. i'm returning to the hobby after a 10 year absence and i decided to try nitro off road. i just ordered the xxxnt and i'm having a tough time picking out a radio for it. since nitro is new to me, i'm not really sure what i "need". I can't afford the oft recommended airtronics m8..the two i'm considering are the airtronics cx2p or the the jr xr3. are stock servos enough or do i HAVE to upgrade to race. thanks for any assistence you can give..i need it.

Yes, both of those radios would make a good choice. You should also look into the Ko propo line. They make an FM model that is great and has lots of features. Is sells for around 150.

if you plan to get a couple more rc's, the xr3 will be better since it has model memory. the xr3 has features that you can use for your nitro, such as throttle atv, steering dual rate, etc. the stock servos may hold up for the moment but if you want to upgrade, get a faster/stronger steering servo.

i would go with the JR XR3 it is a widely used radio and very good. JR makes excellent radios. it is based around 130 bucks and that is really good for an FM radio. if yo wanna go AM than you can go with the XR2 which is around 100 bucks. this is 75Mhz and also an excellent radio. i'm sure whatever radio you go with will be great! :)

By the way.... the stock servos will do you just fine for racing. if you want to upgrade i would look into Hitec's Metal Geared servo's. these are excellent servos and i run them in all my cars. good luck and you'll have fun with your new R/C!
