I Live 4 hours from the closest off road track. I have a good bit of backyard space so I want to build a small track there to practice. But there is only one thing that stands in my way, Mom. She loves her yard. Could you give me any advice on how to aproach her and how to make her like it. The track would consist of probly a srtaight, a double, single, and a couple tight turns. And could you let me know the best way to make a jump.

That would be sweet! A straight to a huge double over mom's favorite tomato or flower plants in it!! "Hey mom..." (calling her now) Plant a garden in the middle and around it. Also near all of her good stuff put fencing around just incase. Also, instead of making it a dirt track, make it like golf green grass or outfield grass, short, but still green.

You could probably pull ti off if you even jsut designated a little space of it to jsut flowers and things likt that, or you could hide the drivers stand(if one) with some tall flowers

Besides the garden thing. What could I say that would convince her to let me build it.

All you have to do is figure out a layout them tell your mom that your going to make it then say "I'm going to may a track and, that's final!"

If it ain't fast, don't race IT!!!!!!!!

rc vehicles don't go nearly as fast on grass, as they do on just plain dirt.... so if your mom doesnt mind a few dirt paths in the backyard, build a few plywood removeable jumps that you can put in the garage when you are done driving, and there you go....

if she will not budge on the losing any grass.... then you will need to find a friend of yours that is also in to rc.... perhaps your buddy has the proper land to build a track.....
if none of the above work.... then build some of those portable, small plywood jumps, and take them to your nearest empty lot..... once you're done driving, just load your jumps back up and go home....

i like the really short golf green grass idea... that way it would still look like grass but you could also drive on it.. tell your mom if she lets you build a track that you'll plant her a flower bed and a garden or somthing like that.. work up a compramise. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I dunno man. Tell her that you want to go into landscaping or something, then tell her if you can work on a little project in the back yard (the track). If she says no, just tell her it will only add to the buety of her garden, and that it would sure as heck beat the 4 hour drive to the track! Just talk to her to make it sound like a good idea.

I guess I should be happy that I have a track 45mins away. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

As a parent, I see only one way. Trade for it. Offer to do chores or to maintain the entire rest of the yard and garden for the privilege of having a track.

Tell your mom that it'll keep you home more. You'll save time and money, and you won't have to take the chance of getting stranded in case the car breaks down. I had the same problem with my wife. I did it on a Temporary basis, and I made it absolutely beautiful. If it's not an eye sore, she won't mind as much. My temporary status lasted a year, and I had a BLAST! My friends came over on the week ends, and it was a good time. I hope your mom will reconsider. Another plus is that it will help you develope engineering and construction skills. Good luck!
