Im running a Peak Vantage 11x2 in my Losi BK2, and it seems like my motor is a lil hot. I'm running the stock spur, and I geared the pinion 2 teeth under what the manual reccomended, and I temped it at 160 at the end of a heat. Is that too hot? And if so, what can I do to cool it down a bit?

Thanks in advance.

160 isn't too hot.

Heat is not a 100% method of determining what is the optimum gearing. Normally you have to be able to determine how the vehicle is running from the start to end of a heat or battery pack. The proper gearing with be the one where vehicle accelerates quickly and smoothly then reaches top speed quickly. It should also run strong for the length of race, sometimes dropping off only if battery begins dumping. Normally if motor is not geared correctly acceleration and top speed is not what it should be, there may be a noticeable decline early in the heat (as temperature increases, speed tends to decline) that depends if pinion is too large or extremely to small. If gearing is a bit on the low side the acceleration and speed is not as good as it should be - speed may not be as good compared to a stock motor's speed.

I have two AE T4s. Both have 12x2 Orion Modified V2s. One is running a 19T pinion while the other is running a 17T. Battery packs are 6 cell GP3300s. After a hard fast run (packs almost fully discharged) my motors temped at 255 (17T) and 275F (19T).

Are these temps considered normal?

As a note I just completed another run after advancing the timing. My previously reported temp was with a motor timing of ~ 0 deg. After readjusting the timing back to factory settings I had better performance with a shorter run time and a motor temp of 220F.

Do I worry about these temps or just limit my run time with this motor?
