These would let me do powersildes into corners and stuff rihgt? If not how do they help.

They help control body roll.

Whats so bad about body roll? Does it slow you down when changing direction really quickly?

It's kind of like the difference between cornering in an old Lincoln or a new Camaro. Your able to hold the road better with them in most cases.

a little body roll is ok, but a lot is bad for handling..

Too much body roll allows your CG to be thrown to the outside of the corner which could make your car unstable in the corner. Also, It helps keep your vehicle roof side up. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

with out the thing, you have to slow down more before the corner to keep the car from overturning
