Anyone ever cut out their bodies and put the holes in BEFORE they painted? I always paint first, but think it might be easier to cut out first so you get everything lined up perfectly then tape the holes and paint. What do you guys think?

I prefer to paint before I cut out the body, it prevents overspray, and the body is more rigid, and less flimsy when painting.

i did it with the one and only bpdy ive painted. i think it came out good except that i forgot to mask the windows and removed the paint witht eh firdst thing i remembered (fuel) so its not perfect anymore...and the details i barely tried on...and it was at 2 AM...but other wise i like it.

I have always painted first. But I've always painted MT bodies. I recently bought a sedan and painted black first and it was a PAIN to try and line up the body mounts and wheel well cutouts just perfect.
So on my next 2 I cut out the body holes and wheel wells while they were clear and they came out MUCH better. If you are talking about a sedan I highly recommend doing it that way.

I've always cut first then painted. I find it's so much easier to line everything up. Overspray isn't an issue. Most of the bodies I've done had overspray film, if they didn't, I took a page from CharlieB's book and used plastic wrap. Much easier to cut first and spray later, IMO.

As do I: Overspray isn't nearly as much of a problem as trying to mount and trim a body that's been painted.

I always cut, trim, ream, and dremel the edges of my bodies before I paint....much easier to deal with. Overspray is never an issue.

I always cut my car bodies before I paint. Less of a hassle in the end. No overspray either.
