View Full Version : What Kind Of Mount Will Fit a .21 Recoil Start Engine?

This is probably a little late to be seeking more advice about this (I already bought the engine!), but I'm trying to figure out how likely I am to find a motor mount that will fit a recoil start engine. I have an O.S. .21 RG-MX and it seems like the recoil starter protrudes out too far for the engine to fit on a normal drop-mount with rubber isolators. How bad would it be if I had to use a solid mount? Does anybody have any tales of mounting recoil start engines that they could share with me?

I have that same engine, I am running a solid octura mount. I got this mount because it was like 8 bucks, I would think the rubber Isolated mounts would work just fine also, but I don't know.

The Octura mounts are nice because they are extruded aluminum and can be easily modified if need be for the pull starter.

That's good to know. I worried that the solid mounts might cause too much stress on the boat, but I guess if I fiberglass in the engine rails real solidly, it should be fine. And they sure are less expensive than rubber mounts! Have you found any specific source of Octura hardware that is preferable, or do you just search around? I could probably find some on eBay if I searched around. I recently ordered some parts from Aeromarine and they overcharged me, "forgot" to put my propeller in the box, and then didn't respond to my e-mails. I'm still resolving that one... I'll be calling them tomorrow.

Most Hobby Shops should be able to get one for you. If they can't, I get most of my Octura parts through Gary Preusse of G&M Models at 630-279-2451. He has no e-mail address or is he online.
Usually he can be contacted almost any time but I think that he may be at the Flint, MI record trials this weekend. He is in the outskirts of Chicago so be considerate of the time. He does carry other brands like Speedmaster also.
