I recently read a Flight Test for the P38 Flying Styro Lockheed Lightning in Model Aeroplane News.
Reference was made regarding the wiring of 2 brushless motors (wired in parallel ?), 2 brushless speed controllers with a 'y lead' to the receiver and one bec lead removed, and 2 lipo batteries(wired in parallel).
To understand how this was done does anyone have a copy of the June 2004 issue of Model Aeroplane News which gives an explanation in the 'Powerlines' column?
Or can anyone explain how this is done?

Hi,
As far as the motors and controllers, the wiring between the individual motors and their controllers would be just like two single motor/controller hookups. At the receiver side, each controller has the three leads, red, black, and a signal. The reason for not connecting one of the red leads is so that only one of the controllers is providing power to the receiver, servos/actuators. There would be some desructive interactions if both red leds were connected. As long as the battery capacity is adequate, it would make no difference whether it were two smaller cells in parallel, or one larger cell. More likely, the two smaller cells fit the model better.
Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave,
Many thanks for your response, it now makes sense.

I have seen a diagram where you connect a battery and a esc to each motor you connect the two throttle wires into a y connector and cut one of the red wires from the esc so the receiver gets power from one battery Have a great day Chuck
