Hey i got a inferno sports rtr wit the gx21 and i was wondering how to get a bit more speed without buying a new engine and i heard a good tuned racing pipe should do the job.
What is a good racing tuned pipe for my 1/8 buggy which will help with more power and stuff?

There isnt a whole lot of tuning you can do with a rc nitro exaust pipe cept move power bands a bit. These engines dont relie on an expansion chamber for a controlled backpressure for intake scavenging. There just topedoe shaped for fuel tank pressure.Money better spent elsewhere first I think.

well they DO help getting faster.i can't really explain how it works...
anyway you would need a new pipe if you buy an engine so why not buy the pipe now?
engine will come later.
we should get savagebasher09 here to give his point of views :D

The shape of the pipe indeed affects performance of the engine as outlined in this article (http://www.rcnitro.com/rn/articles/tuned.asp). It's pretty difficult to recommend a pipe without being there (IMO) as each engine is different, you have to be there to hear it and gauge it's performance.

Yeah, its a hard decision when coming to pipes, ive found pipes for $150+ and pipes that are $20 and the nooly ral difference i hav seen in them is the colour. Quite confusing......

The stock engine on your inferno is pretty darn powerful. They its a .21 engine, alot of buggies that size use .16 or .18 - .21 is insane as i've found on mine.
to get more power, you can get new wheels and tires - add an extra 1-2cm to your height. Change your spur gear and clutch bell to a smaller spur, larger clutch bell.
The inferno is very powerful - i have the same model as you and love it for random bashing and racing. It can be a total bitch to tune but once you get it almost right its perfect for bashing.
I have a Savage SS 4.6 which has a fuel tank 2x the size, and goes through fuel in roughly 3/4 of the time when on the BMX track. The inferno is much more expensive to run parts wise but it handles far better.
Remember this EXACT same engine/pipe combo is used in the Mad Force monster truck from Kyosho. It pulls wheelies and has huge power - its MUCH bigger than the wee lil buggy.
Spend your first upgrade money on new servos! Hitec 645MG for the steering and then a nice powerful plastic geared one for your throttle/breaks. When you put in the steering servo make sure you turn the nut under the servo saver UP 1/2 a turn so you can really turn nicely! You will get MUCH better steering and breaking with this setup. If you want more power your going to need the breaks and steering to handle it.

Try a Vantage CF tune pipe. Many people have told me that their high torque buggy pipe works magic. Ask around.

sheesh, dont listen to this guy. All 1/8th buggies come with .21 engines, and if you want for bashing/no rules club racing-you can go even bigger. The stock GX21 engine is a turd, to get it to be CLOSE to the power some of the faster guys, you have to lean the crap out of it, which is not a good thing. and he is right on ONE thing, get some decent servos first, stay away from HI-tec, their servos have a habit of not centering and can lead to runaways and a buggy that wont drive straight. Get yourself a pair of futaba 3305 metal gear servos for both throttle and brake, I cant believe he told you to get a plastic gear servo for a 1/8th buggy. as for the engine and pipe, look at the JP-2 from ofna, I run that pipe and it is excellent, and it has the same performance values of pipes that are 30 and 40$ more. Finally for the engine, look into the O.S RG, cant go wrong there, once you get it broke in and set the needles right, they run like scalded dogs for their price( they are only 120 bucks) and they are wicked reliable. As for tires look into either pro line or panther tires, it just depends on the surface you want to run on, the ball is in you're court there, just remember-tires are THE MOST IMPORTANT tuning decision you can make in setting up any vehicle. Any more questions? I'd be glad to answer them
