View Full Version : Radio Shack batteries are junk!

I admit it... I was suckered! I purchased two batteries from Radio Shack 'cause a 7.2v 2000mAh battery for ~$20 is a good price... but not if it won't last!!! At first, the battery was great. Fast. Long run times. After a few weeks, though, it started to seem a bit "short", shall we say. Then, yesterday, I attached one of my RS batteries to my car and it wouldn't run. I fiddled with it, turned the car off/on, etc.. Finally I put in my Piranha 1800 -- it worked great. When it was done, I put the RS battery back... but it still acted strangely (though I *could* get it to run). After a few minutes, the car was dead and I have not been able to remove the battery since! Why? The molex connectors between my RS battery and my ESC are fused together! I can't pry 'em apart, rip 'em apart -- even with pliers. I'll end up having to cut the wires!!! Not only that, but both of my RS batteries have been giving me about 1/3 of the run time as compared with the Piranha 1800.... that is, from first putting the battery in until several minutes later when the car will no longer move under battery power. In fact, the RS batteries drop off incredibly fast... little to no wind-down time! And "yes", I've charged/discharged them all properly AND the exact same way.
Here's my setup:
- Tamiya TL01B
- Trinity Sapphire 17t
- Novak Duster Sport ESC
- Futaba Magnum Sport
- Bearings, etc...
Well.... what can I say.... it seemed like a good deal.... but it wasn't. I *will* be purchasing some nice Piranha 1800's....
Thanks.

You should have ditched the stock connectors from the start and installed better ones like Acer Plugs www.acerracing.com (http://www.acerracing.com)

Well, did you charge the battery, run the car, charge the batter, run the car, charge the battery et cetera a lot of times everyday? You should only run/charge the battery 1 or 2x a day.

I maybe should go with after-market connectors, but it doesn't change the fact that the RatShack batteries operated far below the other brands I own. You get what you pay for, right? http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif
As far as charging/re-charging on the same day, I've never done that -- so that shouldn't be an issue.
Thanks!

Hey, i think you can't say that, i think in the user agreement statement it said you can't make topics like this, you say something like 'problems with radio shack batteries' or somethin like that. BTW, i have 2 RS batts, and they have worked fine, i have a 1700, that i have had for a year or so, and a 2200 NiMh that actually hasn't been that bad, i even run quals with them , and i have won some with them ,never had any probs

I didn't know you could get 2200's from RS I only know of there blue 2000 and the black 1200's how are you getting these and my blue pack was 25$ not 50$ not sure what you excatly mean though maybe. RS are great I run them in my rustler al the time and they don't even get the motor or there selves as hot as my dynimite 1500 packs. I think there a great deal!

rc x2000: this isnt no put down or any thing. but trinity and the battery companys placed them selves in r/c so they expect r/cers to use there batterys. with that in mind. they make the best packs and sponser racers wo use there packs so they look like the greatest thing.
there was some dude that started a radio shack battery thread a while back and said (he used 2000 and 2200 batterys) that he noticed no differeance at all. and we even won races with them in his buggy.... go fig

I think I would personaly stay away too, RS batteries are for closed endbell 540's not P2K's or 10t mods.

I got some RS bateries a LONG toime ago. They have great voltage but they don't last for even 3 minutes. I stay away from them now and get "REAL" batteries.
