View Full Version : Keeping shocks clean?

My shock shafts are always covered in dirt after I run, this can't be good to leave on there, so I want to know how everyone gets that off... I have heard about toothburshes and simple green for cleaning, is this a good way to get inside the springs on the shocks?

Oh yeah, when using simple green, what concentration do you use it in? Right out of the bottle?

If you have an air duster, those work well. After every few runs or so, just take the shocks off and clean them off. Do this with other parts as well.

shock boots work wonders. Some people sell them, iv seen them in advertisments recently for sale. Or if you find the right ballon you can shove your springs in them and they will work. This isnt a hack tip, Brain Kinwald used them, pictures in the newest rcca mag i think.

this thread had pictures, but i guess the link has run out, theres still directions http://pub29.ezboard.com/fnatesrcmessageboardfrm10.showMessage?topicID=2.to pic

screw the balloons. just use a toothbrush to scrap off as much as you can. most of it won't get in the shocks anyway because they are sealed.

But if you let the crud sit there for any length of time, it may end up scratching the shaft and then in turn making the shock leak. I saw some 1/8 scale shocks (Ofna I think) that had an outer cover near the bottom that prevented crud from getting anywhere near the seals, but I think balloons will work well.

You know you are having a bad day when you scratch your shaft.

Have you guys seen these? (http://www.geocities.com/jasoninaugusta/shocksocks.jpg)

They are cloth, washable with anything next to the sink, dry very quickly, and keep your shocks clean. We ran at Thunder on the Beach in New Jersey and they kept sand off all weekend.

cost is 10 bucks for 4, you'll have to get 8 to do a T-Maxx, but they work and last much longer than a balloon.

You can get a set of 4 and do two touring cars.

They have a paypal account set up, but no site. That .jpg is all they have on the net right now.

Here's an e-mail addy..
