View Full Version : This sounds crazy but.................
I was putting a prop on my cat tonight that just came in the mail(Thanks DD) and I thought of this. Could you get 2 props that are small so they equal the diameter of the single one, put a drive dog on, slip the prop on the put another drive dog and then the nut for the one out the furthest. I just know that they do this on full sized boats except they spin opposite on the same drive  So do you think it could work if you put 2 props on one drive.
It sounds crazy but what if it works????????? :D :D :D

Why not just get a 3 or 4 blade prop. Same effect, less drag, less weight.
Now, if you could come up with a scale duo pro system, that might be intresting.
Keep in mind that on full size boats the duo prop system actually results in a slight speed loss. It's not usually noticable because the dou's are usually hooked up to a bigger engine If you just swap a single for a duo w/o changing anything else, you will loose speed. You do gain a ton of control and manuverability with the dou set ups - especially at slow speeds.

Yeah right, make one that works:D If I was good a metal working and knew how it worked that might be possible. I will admit that it would be way sweet to see one:D

...is NO PROP TORQUE. The props counteract each other and cancel out any tendency to prop walk. However, as DD says, there is some speed loss. They tend to be very efficient though. The big drawbacks would be frictional losses from the double shafts, a gearbox necessary for counter-rotation, and twice the hub area.
