If you are going to spend a little more like $500 you could get the 1/8 scale sonic RTR, i think it's in the price range. The Traxxas nitro 4 tec and duratrax street force go 50+ the nitro 4 tec is better in my opinion, I have a street force and something is up with that steering, Somebody rammed my car in my front tire and I can never get the car to go straight again without adjusting the steer on the transmitter, the street force can go a tad faster though, the street force can hit 51.7MPH and the nitro 4 tec 51.3MPH not much difference but just giving advice.

Yeah i say go with the 4-tec because of part availability!!!!!!At my LHS they have tons of traxxas stuff, and it seams to be cheaper to fix a traxxas over most brands!!!!Just my opinion, your LHS may have more Duratrax stuff than traxxas stuff!!!

Oh yea i forgot if you want a higher quality racing car go with the TC3 they seem to go more for racing than the 4-tec!!You could race a 4-tec but most big racers prefer the tc3!!!The only problem is i dont think the tc3 comes in a RTR version!!I have heard they are very easy to build though!!!!

I need some names of some of the fastest gas RTRs under $450 because I'm on a budget.

Thanks
Erik

The Traxxas Nitro 4-TEC is claimed to go 50+ MPH out of the box (as is the Duratrax Street Force, but I've heard more good things about the Traxxas than the Duratrax).

Thanks a lot

I was just wondering, I just saw a review of a Shumacher Big Nitro 6 in a previous issue and I was wondering how good that is even though it isn't a RTR

Thanks
Erik

THe OFNA 1/8 scale street car was in this months RC Car action and it said that they clocked it at 42mph. THey also said that it was under geared and with a 2 speed tranny he though it could go 60+.

Why is everyone obsessed with "how fast it goes" ?
Very high top speeds can be reached with darn near any kit. You could make a Frog go 50 MPH if you really wanted ... but WHY ?!
If I wanted the best bang for the buck, and could worry about land speed records later, I would be concerned with parts availability, reliability, others with similar kit so you can get advice and help, and then finally performance.
Remember that driving is way more than 50% of the equation. Driving is more like 80%. If you are an unexperienced driver, that $450 dollar "fasted gas RTR" will be dog slow. Except of course it will be really fast on your wallet :p
Sorry to sound negative, but if you REALLY want speed, buy a drag car ... otherwise buy a car based on something more sensible (like the things I mentioned above).

Thanks you, I am calm now .... ohhhmmmmmm oooohhhhmmmmmmm <--- meditating ;)

I agree with jeepinator. you can drive up and down your street as fast as you can go, but if you are not drag racing, who cares how fast it goes. If you're racing on a track, you need steering in/out of corners, and torque/acceleration to get speed before breaking for the next corner. and of course "practice makes results".

but impressive speed is impressive!

I'd also recommend the OB4 as it has a pull start engine instead of a non-pullstart that owuld require a starter box. Plus the ob4 is cheap like 280 or so. (without radio, eletronics, and fuel.)

To jeepinator,

Thanks for your advice but could you have been a little bit more sarcastic, that wasn't enough for me.
In your response you said that you listed some cars but obviously you forgot. :p

What kind of cars were you talking about? The RC10GT, the OB4, the Ofna on road 1/8th scale or what?

Thanks
Erik
