I just bought an old Tamiya Avante that the guy had painted on the outside of the body. Is there a safe way to remove paint from lexan bodies that wont harm them? I dont know what kind of paint it was painted with if that makes a difference. Any ideas would be great

There was this Lightening stuff that did it in one swipe, but I forgot everything, including the name (I think it's White Lightening, maybe). Try paint thinner, but dont get it on the inside of the body, or else paint wont stick to the inside. As soon as you get the paint off, wash the body in luke warm water, right away. Wait to do this until other people comment, because there might be a better way.

Nitro fuel works, so does thinner. Both will leave the lexan cloudy and it won't look very good either way. Wash the body right away after doing this. Best bet would be to buy a new body if you can find one for the Avante.

Someone from RCCA said that a product called "Nitro Clean" or somehting like that took off the paint without cluoding the plastic.
Ask SteveP, I think he'll know.

If the paint is flaking in an area you often can blow all the rest off with an air compressor, I've managed to do it once before when the paint didn't take very well. Everyone else is right though, most products that'll strip will cloud the lexan or make it very brittle and crack. Good luck... Many years ago I wanted an Avante myself =)
