I believe this is a R/C 500 2wd version with a Rex engine-both new and never run! What do you all think?

Those oldies are the best.

I collect them too.

Maybe we should have a forum for info and good links on collecting.

Wow! NIB! What year is that Steve, about early 70s? What is it going in?

As for getting parts-- I believe AE still stocks quite a few RC250/500 parts. Give them a call!

SteveP- I've seen a guy flying a plane with one of those but in a two stick version. He's good too. I like the odd looks of those old radios, its something very few other people have.

That is an awesome car. Thats Associated right? I have another question. How do you guys manage to find these sweet old cars and in such good condition? I'd love to find a sweet show car but they all seem to be really used and the prices are sky-high.

I just got lucky thats it! And I wanted it at almost any cost. Just keep searching and searching E-bay and you are bound to find something! And yes it Associated an R/C500. The person I got it from, didnt know alot about it and I dont know too much more. Any info would appreciated!

weasel - about 140+ after shipping and the fun stuff.

ATM - The price is the key. There are still plenty of old cars available for a reasonable price, but you're going to pay a decent price for anything that was popular back in the day; unless you find someone that doesn't know what they have. That's becoming more rare.

Nice find you weasel !
I did not even see that there and I cruise Ebay pretty often.
You just gotta love having a great piece of history. I find it profoundly cool that AE is in the center (if not the beginning) of modern RC history.
I have not seen a MIB 6000 series RC10 for quite some time now. I paid almost 500 for mine  . You kinda got me fired up to get it all decked out with the electronics of the era, etc
I have been scouring ebay for some goodies ;)

Hey SteveP, looks familiar, that's what I picked up for $47 when I originally got my FX-10, I actually still use it since it works well and is surprisingly comfortable. Where'd you get it and for how much? Edit: Oh, just saw how much you paid for it, I feel like I robbed the placed who was selling it on special so long ago. Too bad I don't have the box and everything, though I still have the original big pager sized receiver and servos.

Weasel -- I may be your man. I was racing an RC500 in about 1986 here in Arizona at the original Scale Racing Sports.

Here are some tidbits:

•  The ONLY body we ran was the Elfin (I don't even know if anyone makes it still)
• I ran a Ron Paris built NovaRossi .21. He was also building other engines at the time.
• I had the first non-factory sponsored 4WD version (conversion kit) in the state
• Quick-change wheels were new then -- remember, you go through tires fast with 1/8 scale gas cars
• On average, I dropped $100 per race day for fuel, tires and misc. breakage
• Best of all -- it was by far, the most fun I ever had with R/C.
• We had several sponsored drivers in AZ at the time -- at least 2 Associated and one Delta.

That's all I can remember right now.

Hope you enjoy your new car!

Thanks alot btsai! My next plan is to find the 4wd conversion. I know about the tire wear on 1/8 scale cars but this one will prolly go on the shelf. Once again, thanks your bring'in back the memmories! :D

i've been loking for R/C book's in my librairy but there all like mid 70's which is those 1/8 scale on road nitro and 1/2 scale on road electric, with flexible chasis's insted of shock's, and resistor's insted of rotory speed control's or esc's

and the first off road's were just coming out they were dune buggies which were regular 1/12 scale on roader's flipped up side down with there eletronic's on the opposite side to give it more ground clearince. there was no 1/10'th scale then just 1/8 and 1/12

what did everyone do withought off road?
