This is what I have so far. It's going to be 80% red/black weave carbon fiber with a little aluminum for bracing. I plan to go brushless so I need some suggestions on a drive train. I was planning to use the rear set up off of an old Bolink dragster I have, It's a direct drive set up but I would like to use a belt<(is this a bad idea?) I've seen some dragsters with a small belt drive in the rear and the appear to be very efficient and quiet. I still have some finishing touches to do on the chassis, but for the most part it's all set up.

I've never seen an electric with a belt. Stick with direct drive, it will be a lot stronger
If you don't get brushless, try a microswitch. They are less than $10 and they are a lot faster than an ESC.

You could always go with an RC10 Pan rear end.

Thats actualy a pretty good idea. I'm gonna look into that

The carbon fiber looks awesome. When you saw direct drive, do you mean a spur attached to the rear axel? If so I'd think thats probably the most efficient driveline you could have. A belt may be quieter, but probably not as efficient. Course we're talking super tiny difference that probably doesn't matter...
Anyway I'd take a solid gear driveline in a dragster any day over a belt. How many cells are you thinking?

I have no idea how many cells yet. I haven't decided which brushless motor to get yet either. any suggestions?

Just get a low turn brushed motor and a microswitch. They will go as fast as brushless and will be hundreds of dollars cheaper.

I agree. Unless you have money you want to basically waste, go brushed. The microswitch is what most people use for drag racing anyway.

Sounds good to me, thanks for the input. I'll be going to the hobby shop tomorrow night so I'll look into it.
