I heard the evader is really brittle, how does it compare to a pede?

i had en evader st.while the truck itself is great,on the other hand, the tranny is pure crap.it ate idlers and diff gears in 2 runs.don't know if its better today but i don't reccomand it.do yourself a favor and go for an rc10t4 rtr or xxxt rtr if you really want a st.
the pede is a monster which is great for bashing.what do plan to do,bashing or a bit of racing too?

Nothing but bashing, never racing. I already have a stampede and I bought a evader rolling chassie to get the shocks from it and put them on my pede, possibly try the evader and see if I like it compared to the pede but I heard from a few people the evader was crap. I have a SS5800 system that I am gonna use in any setup I am gonna get or stick with. I gather that the SS5800 would destroy the tranny really quick?
I would like a xxx-t but I dont think its worth it for me, I havent seen any rolling xxx-t chassies, I dont want to buy the whole package... How much stonger is the plastic on a xxxt?
Really I am looking for a car that can take the most abuse and not break, I also want it to have enough clearance to run on grass. I have a set of M2ks and a set of dirtworks with edge fronts, and am gonna be using the SS5800.
Since I mostly do jumps is the stampede gonna be the best vehicale?

I have an xxx-t and have put it thorugh its paces! I havent broke anything other than the front pivot block that wore to the point of breaking, and the rear pivot block. These are the two things that should be replaced with aluminum anyways as they will wear over time and sooner or later break. I run a ery strong brushless system and havent had any problems with the tranny.
I use one xxx-t for bashing and one for racing. Heres a pic of the basher.....

I have an evader St and my friend has a evader BX. I have had my truck for awhile and done some bashing like jumping of a kicker on my porch roof didnt break anythign along with tons of cart wheels and jumps before that. Only think i broke was a rear arm so i think it is a rock. Now my friend somethign weird he has hit a curb like 1mph and snapped both front arms dose alittle jump of the curb break the shock towers, he ran in to a empty pop can in the street and borke an A-arm so its some freaky stuff

DUDE, the evader is crap! Thats y they have the stress teck guarentee because the break a lot(at least the plastic). I raced against one at the local track and the guy was great with a b4 and a t4 but when he took out his evader he was in the pits like every 5 mins with broken a arms of broken shock towers. My old rustler never broke a single part in 2 years and i jumep the living hell out of it. My new T4 is great hasnt broken yet!

I have raced my Evader at the track and have beat several XXT's and T4's so I don't think the evader is a bad truck from some racing and some bashing. The Rustler is defenitly a good truck it was my first truck and for pure bashing it is defeintly the truck to go with but I recomend the alum. idler for the rustler.

I have an Evader ST, I've had it since they came out, and have nothing but good to say about it. I don't use it as much since its pretty much my basher, but I never broke anything in the tranny, and I was using a 12x2 Revolution. I'm not so sure what Fluke was talking about  I'd also like to point out that I own a Factory Team T4, and a G+ XXX-4, so trust me when I say that the Evader is not as bad as people want to make it out to be. I own some of the "best" cars people say you can buy, yet the Evader holds its own; especially when you compare the prices. For the record- In my past I've broken ONE part on my Evader- the transmission brace. I don't abuse my cars, but I still have fun with them. If you use a little common sense when jumping, etc. you're cars will hold up a lot better.

Duratrax cars seem to have the same problem as a lot of Traxxas cars. Overall they seem to be pretty well designed, but the materials are some of the worst in r/c. Traxxas and Duratrax both use a very brittle plastic that doesn't like to flex much at all before it snaps, and the plastic isn't deformable either meaning you don't scrape it up as you go over a rock, you snap it. I don't know why these companies use that junk. Maybe it's to keep costs down? Maybe it's to make more money? Maybe they feel it's a better setup than something like HPI, RPM, or Pro-Line plastic? I dunno why they do it but I know it's brittle.
The Evader is a good truck if you're gentle to it, and it's definately a good value...but it's like an XTM, they get their money back in parts. They probably don't make much on the kits but you'll buy about a million parts for them if you use them hard, and even if you upgrade them you're buying their aluminum because very very few companies make stuff for Duratrax vehicles. Personally, if you've got the money, the AE or Losi trucks are much, much, much better overall. They come with nicer speedos, and nicer radios. I think the XXX-T is pretty hard to beat. Novak ESC, JR radio, Trinity motor, Losi quality everywhere else, ya, it really doesn't get better than that in an RTR.

I'm not so sure what Fluke was talking about
then you're not driving hard enough :p
seriously,i hated my tranny but i love the rest of it.
metalry101
actually the evader is rather on the "flexy" side.i can twist the chassis 45 degrees without a prob.maybe that was the con.the rear plate was really soft and allowed deformation of the tranny case.now that i talk about it,it seems that it might be my problem!i haven't thought of replacing the rear plate!boy at times i'm just stupid

The chassis is flexyish...but the stuff that people break isn't...it's brittle. A-arms, shock towers, hubs, etc, they all seem to be very very brittle, at least in my experience.

Yeah I added it to the rear to help with my abusive nature. :p The rear has alot of extra aluminum on it. The rear pivot block and arms from an xxx-nt (which was a pain to add) and a 6061-t6 pivot plate. So there is a little extra weight to be thrown around. I just changed to lipos which takes about half a pound off. :D

The Evader is definately not crap. They are good entry level trucks. I didnt break anything on mine. The plastic parts are a little soft so they bend but dont break. But after a while the screws wont stay tight.
I also had issues withy the idler gear failure after I installed a 12x2 mod motor in mine.
I would recommend one to anyone who doest have a lot to spend and isnt racing.

It's all in how you bash and how well you take care of it. Other things like temperature have an effect on the truck's materials as well. The colder it is outside, the more brittle the plastic, the warmer it is out side, the flexier it'll be.
