It takes off anodizing without the danger and stench of Drano or oven cleaner. I bought it at Lowe's and tried it tonite. SWEET!

Cool! Two arm mounts and a shock tower later I can't wait to polish and seal these parts! There is none of the black film or pitting you can get with the harsh stuff AND I can pick the parts out with my bare hands  Try that with Drano. I have my blue Traxxas 2.5 header in there now. This Rustler should look great in polished aluminum with an RD upper and lower chassis.

What type of product is Greased Lightning and how long did it take to strip the anodising from your parts? Sounds interesting!

Its a de-greaser. I bought a big bottle of it at this liqudation place for $2. It works pretty good. It smells and feels just like "Fantastic" though. :D

It took me about a half hour to strip a Nitro Rustler shock tower, two arm mounts and a 2.5 blue header. That was doing it piece by piece on a trial basis. Now that I know how well it really works I could dump a few pieces in the bucket. I want to go back and see if they have a gallon jug of this stuff...it even removes paint from a 1:1 car if it gets on it. I bought it as a degreaser for a work vehicle's wheels but then I read that it was not safe for paint or aluminum...the wheels in my head started turning!

I already submitted it as a tip to the rc mags...it works THAT well!

I will try to get time to post a few pics...that header was sweet because the part that bolts to the engine is finned and the GL got all the ano from between the fins without the black film.

I should re-bottle it and sell it on here as "Safe, easy to use Anodizing Remover"

That stuff works great as a cleaner too.

I can only imagine! Better watch what it gets on though or your custom paint or ano will go bye-bye!

We have been using that stuff for a few years here. I use it to clean some things and my mom uses it to remove stains.

I cleaned my MBX5 with it one time and though it did one heck of a job, it did pit the chassis.

Wear gloves with this stuff as well, it does a nasty number on the skin.

I am still in awe how well these parts are turning out! I accidentally left the aluminum rear bulkhead for my Rusty 2.5 IN THE SOLUTION FOR OVER 8 HRS! It had a light black film that washed right off but NO pitting or wear! Try that with LYE. Once I am done with the parts I am re-using I am going to remove the ano and polish the alum arms. I'll sell them on eBay or here since I am using RPM arms. This is definately THE way to remove ano. I am doing the hub carriers in a bucket in my sink...no fumes.

I have bought and tried this and cant seem to get the ano off shocks. I bought the Orange Blast because that is all I could find. Is this not the one I need?

Orange stuff won't work. You need to have the folowing ingredients:

sodium hydroxide and butoxyethanol

If those aren't listed, and if no ingredients are listed, then it likely does not have these ingredients.

Also, the product should warn you that it can damage some finishes and/or finished aluminum. That is an indicator that the two ingredients listed above are in the cleaner. Those will clean the finish right off aluminum.

From my quick scan of WalMarts shelves, it appears that the orange Greased Lightningf is a powerful citrus based cleaner, not an orange scented version of the sodium hydroxide and butoxyethanol product being discussed here.

If you cannot locate basic Greased Lighning with sodium hydroxide and butoxyethanol , try for a similar product with sodium hydroxide and butoxyethanol listed in the 'contains' section or in the 'warning' section of the bottle. Heavy-duty degreasers or products that claim to catalyze grease on contact are worth checking out (read the labels to confirn it has sodium hydroxide and butoxyethanol).

Right on Philster, I found the other max strength stuff at Home Depot and it works great. Thanks for the info.

Another really good degreaser is IDX20. My dad uses it at work for cleaning forklifts and brought home a spray bottle and a 4L jug. I must say that it will clean everything. It even makes faded, smoke stained plastic its original color again.
I used it on my tmaxx and everything looked like new. It's corrosive, but not highly. I use it without gloves and it only dries out my skin.
It is made here in BC, so I don't know where it's easily available elsewhere  If you do find it, I recommend both the spray bottle and the 4L jug. (it works good for cleaning the bathroom too ;) )
