I have bought some createx airbrush paints to lexan paint bodies with. But it seems like that when water gets on the body the paint seems to "melt" away. Also the paint scratches off the body quite easily as well. Would adding the bonding agent that createx makes for painting on non porous surfaces (such as glass, lexan) help the paint stick better to the body? I have already washed the body quite thoroughly. Also because the createx paint is a water based paint, would applying a layer or the createx clearcoating help prevent water from taking the paint off the body? And would you guys recommend the matte or gloss clear-coat. Thanks for you help

I always scuff the body with scotchbrite and acrylic paints stick fine.
I have never had any problem with water making the paint come off once it's fully cured.
The clear coat dries pretty stiff, so I would imagine that it would not prevent chipping, but would actually encourage it.

If you are having problems with crreatex, one thing you can do is apply a final coat of Faskolor Faskoat. It provides a rubbery coating that will protect the createx.

If the body is preped properly (I only wash mine with dish soap) it should be fine. I only use FasKote on nitro bodies. If createx isn't cured or heat set, it will wash off. Bond-all will help some but again it still needs to cure. Using either a heat gun or hair dryer set on high will heat set the body just fine. For those in warmer climates, setting the body in direct sunlight will also work. I'm painting my Porsche with Createx and don't expect to have any problems though I may use a clear coat to give it some shine. All I'm planing in is heat setting.
Feel free to contact me directly if you need further help.

you can use both the gloss or the matte clear coat. both dry clear and stay realativly flexable providing you keep it to two thin coats. but the body must be completly cured first. let it sit for at least 48 hours before you clear to make sure it's completly cured you can do it after 24 hours but I usually wait 48.
by the way faskoat is createx clearcoat they are the same parma just marks up the price.

Thanks for all you replys guys. So all the faskolor stuff is pretty much just relabled createx products? So the createx paint I have right now won't be any different than faskolor paints? Also, is the clear coat water soluble or does it protect the paint from the elements quite well. And how do I know if the paint has cured yet? Thanks

I normally put the freshly painted top in a warm place like my stereo receiver or on top of my monitor for at least a day to cure the Faskolor. Some people don't like that Fascoat is a little on the sticky side when dry (holds on to dirt and foam tire dust), so I put on a few very thin coats of Pactra as a final step. If you spray the Pactra on to thick to fast...it will soak through and crack the paint.

exactly the faskolor is just relabeld createx. the clear coat dries slightly flexible and you'd have to really soak it for the fuel to eat thru it. a splash or three won't hurt it at all.
once it dries it's water proof and very fuel resistant.

So where can I buy some createx paints? Are they alot cheaper than Faskolor?

dyslexic: make that www.dixieart.com =)
I have yet to visit another Michael's near me. The one closest to where I live doesn't sell anything by Createx and their airbrush section is a small glass case with a lonely Badger airbrush and a few accessories in it. So not all Michael's stores sell Createx.
Paintguy: I reckon you are talking about Pactra lacquer, as you mentioned using thin coats to avoid it eating through the rest of the paint. That's one thing I learned from you guys around here - water-based paint over lacquer is okay, but not the other way around.

Putting lacquer over acrylic is ok, but only if you let the acrylic dry COMPLETELY, as in over night.

Thanks for the clarification, WheelNut. I'd read not to ever put lacquer over acrylic, so that's good news to me and I always leave painted shells to dry overnight before putting on a final backing, so that works out well.
Thanks again =)

I always use shoe-goo as a thin final backing for long instensive paint jobs when racing 1/8 scale off road with 30 minute mains and pitstops from bad pit guys that get fuel everywhere...

I heard that the auto air paints stick better to lexan bodies, is that true? and also, has anobody used createx' bonding additive before?

yes the auto air line of paints does stick better then the standard createx, and the colors hold up against UV rays better.
I myself have never used the bond-all additive but have heard that it does help with the adhesion to the lexan.

Do any of you guys know if the Faskoat is the equivilant of the createx matte clearcoat or the gloss clear coat? And would using the gloss clearcoat make cleaning up the inside of the body easier? thanks

I've used Krylon Int/Ext black to back Createx with great results. I haven't used it on a Nirto vehicle yet though. Dries in 12 minutes or less and only costs $1.97 at my local WallyWorld for a can that will last forever. :D

That's pretty much the trick to getting any paint to stick well. Make sure the paint is dry and set before final backing. Heat setting it with a blow dryer works well.

I belive it is the same as the gloss clear coat, but it won't make it any easier to clean the body that i've noticed. I've tried both results are pretty much identical.
