Sup Guys,

I cleaned out my motor today and lost those small washers ,and the little washer that looks like carbon fiber, on either side of the motor; near the bearings at the top and bottom of the motor. Well, what I was wondering...do I really need them? Can I run my motor without causing any damage and without any power loss?

The woven washer is to make sure a metal washer does not contact more then one segment of the comm at one time. This could short out the motor. I have seen motors that do not run them although you will want to make sure the OD of the new shims you use do not contact the comm segments. Running an unshimmed motor will just mean the arm will move around in the can more and not stay in the magnetic center of the can which is where it will produce the most power. More then likely you will not notice anything as long as there is not so much play that the brushes can hit the arm. (not likely)
