An aquantance gave me a vintage Tamiya Special Racing Buggy that is missing some parts for the front end. Specifically, I need the upper arm, hub and hardware along with the linkage from the servo to the arms. Any ideas on where these parts can be found?

I thought it would be fun to get the old thing going again. The rest of the chasis appears to be in good shape.

Also, any ideas on if the motor is easily replaced with a newer model?

Thanks,

Tonka Tough

Tamiya didn't make a "Special Racing Buggy." If you can post a picture of the car, then maybe we can help to identify it. eBay and TamiyaClub.com are good sources of information and parts for the out-of-production cars.

The Ford Ranger F150, Sand Scorcher and Rough Rider are Tamiya's SRB's. IMO, so is the Super Champ, but it doesn't say that on the box (and it varies depending on who you ask).

TamiyaClub and eBay are teh bomb.
Motors can be tough, since they're held in by the cover, and are located by pins inside the tranny housing. You might get a regular 540 to fit, but I don't think the cover will work anymore. I've heard of people drilling out the pins inside so a regular screw can be used to attach it instead.
And I agree with TRF, Steve's setting you up. :)

Jekler, TRF & Pond,

Thanks for the initial feedback.

I have uploaded an image of the overall buggy. An will upload another image of the front end later.

I don't really know what I have (or do I ;) ), but I just know that this kind of vehicle is what I wanted to buy when I was 13 years old but could never afford. Now that I am $#@*&$ years old, it just takes me back. Now I can afford this hobby for myself and my kids and would just love to see if I could get this thing running.

I will check out some of the web sites mentioned. Ebay had some vintage stuff, but nothing related to front end assemblies or the "Special Racing Buggy". In fact, the name embossed in the solid, clear plastic, rigid body is just that.

The tires on the car are Sand Blaster 915's on small 1.5" rims and the rears are Super Grippers 16.50-15. I assume the 15 indicates the 1.5" diameter. I may have to buy another whole or scrapped buggy to get any parts. Time to hook up with some relatives that can get access to some CNC equipment? That could be fun anyway. Maybe I should try to hunt down some old specs from Tamiya - virtually impossible, I am sure.

Looks like a rough rider, maybe a sand scorcher
