View Full Version : How to power Stadium Truck for high HP bashing?

Hello all,

I'm a little frustrated. I have a Losi XXX-T MF that I like to bash a lot on the street, with street tires--incl making some smoking trails off the tires :D Yea, I know I'm hard on the car, but it's fun.

However, the problem is keeping the various mod motors I have tried cool enough for a long bashing session. I recently purchased an Orion Revolution 9x1 motor that has great power, but it heats up pretty quick. I use the stock spur gear (red), and have varied the pinion gear from 11 to 21. The diff is adjusted right (after burning up the last one), and the slipper is adjusted to give a nice whine off the line & fast takeoff.

My problem is that I want the power of a low turn modified, with the ability to bash for long periods of time (3-4 battery packs?) without burning up the motor. My ESC (Novak Dually) & batteries seem to be holding up to the abuse just fine (~130-140 degrees). The 9x1 very quickly gets to 160+ regardless of gearing, where I have to end my fun without even using up one battery pack. Do I just need to drop in a long can brushless, or what?

Other details I just added in this edit:

I have gone through the entire vehicle making sure it's bind-free. Bearings are new in the wheels & transmission, wheels don't bind, etc.

I live in Phoenix, AZ, where ambients can often get 110+ in the summer. I would rather be able to continue to play in the summer too. The measurements I gave in my post reflect ambients in the ~80ish range.

Obviously I need a setup with a lot of head room given ambients & my hard driving style.

Is that motor small enough for a XXX-T? This vehicle only takes a 500 series motor due to diameter limitations imposed by the transmission. While designed for a 540 motor, A 550 motor does also fit since it's just a little longer (tried one from my EMaxx).

Do you have a link to the specs?

I have seen the Plettenberg Extreme in XXX-MF2 I race against.

Novak SS5800 BL system is nice, though not as insane as other BL. Still, might be fast enough for you. :) The ESC is not the coolest thing in the world, so I don't know how it would handle 110 degree weather. However, with proper gearing it could work.
