Ive been running off-road gas for 8 years (rc10 gt mostly)and I want to try a electric off-road 2wd buggy. I want to race so i'm going to visit some tracks soon as I didn't race gas because of long mains and cost. I went gas because of run and the engine but im tired of cleaning and things wearing out so fast. I have 2 questions,

1: what are run times with batteries these days as im sure they are way higher than when I last had electric (1997) both stock and mod.

2: How well do they hold up, how much Matience is required and how dirty do they get after a day of racing compared to gas say a rc10gt. (my truck looked like a dirt ball after an hour of running). :)

Maintenance routine varies with each persons experience or how much wear the motor is subjected to.
For offroad most with spray out the motor with motor cleaner, relube the bushing and install it for the next heat. Some others or highly competitive racers may clean it, reoil inspect wear to comm or brush (turing comm or changing brushes if needed) to some using a different motor for heat race.

Sometimes as you use the same motor with a certain brush and spring setup you get an idea of the amount of wear it goes through and can judge when just routine maintenance is fine or a complete rebuild (comm truing, brush replacement, spring change or replacing motor) is needed.

As capacity has increased (3700MAH) in stock racing we never use the full power or runtime of the battery but in some forms of modified racing (4min oval) it not uncommon to dump GP3300 and possibly close on 3600 and 3700Mah. So in certain forms of use we hardly come close to using the full capacity and in others it's not enough.
