after trying and trying i finaly found a way to make hubless wheels i did it for a rc car the tire actually rotates around the rim on bearings instead of a true hub this way its lighter more ridged and there is less torque reaction and less axial and radial strain this idea was adapted from franco sbarro one of the world greatest car designers ever

okay, I'm slightly confused. I would love some clarification and some pictures if you have any. I'm up for trying anything. any sites you know of that can better show what you are talking about? I'm a technical kind of guy, but you lost me with putting bearings in the tires and driving the tires on the rims and not the rims. lemme know more!!

email me at rc51racerx@yahoo.com the addy I used for my name is really not the one I use so this one is better.

What he means is the tire spins around the rim ........ okay to make it simpler there is a bearing that goes around the inner bead of the tire u then slide the bearing over the rim so the rim dont spin the tire does like if u werent to glue a tire to the rim the rim would slip inside the tire..... get it????????? i know........ it took me a bit to figure out what the heck he ment but i get it now

i dont have any pics or links at all to make the prototype i need some serious lazer cutting machiery meaning my dad wil have to make it and i will need some solid tires and some type of rim

first off this very compicated and with my english skills many may not understand there are two huge majior concerns of mine keeping wheels on the rim and the drive train atachment are the most lethal of the hubless wheel

I know exactly what you are trying to explain, for I have seen a couple little euro toys(cars) that had this style of hub/drive train. There is one problem though, you would need to make this so small as to out perfrom anything that could be done with a normal nylon hub, granted you would have less rotating mass, but you would have more parts to make the car go therefore causing more problems.
It is an intrigueing idea, and if you do it, post pics, just dont race with it.

HUBLESS WHEEL (http://perso.club-internet.fr/phcalvet/sbarro/rouegb.html)

This is veryclose to what you were talking about.
check it out

if you were to do this on an R/C the 2 bid bearings you would use would have more rotating mass than the nylon rim, so there is no point in doing this, and just think of the cost, its hard to make a good thing any better.

bullfrog, I understood the concept, I'm not inept here ;-) I just dont' understand how you would get power to the wheel or set up a differential. the concept I understand, its the nitty gritty I'm after. I'm going to look at R/T's link he posted.

EDIT: Anyone have a page that shows how the concept works? like the technical stuff? I couldn't find anything in English ;-)
