Go to the track as often as possible for practice. It really helps.

Also while you are at the track talk to the guys a lot of them can really help nd are very nice. I went for the first time this weekend and i was having trouble with the ball cups popping off. I was talking to a guys about it and he explained to me how to fix it and offered me the part. Basically i am trying to say that these guys can be a big help to you and your racing abilities.

The best information you will ever get, is from the racers at your local track. Things like gearing (mentioned either as final drive or rollout), which motor is favored, tires compounds, chassis setup. Also you'll get a better idea just how good each driver is. But you can still get information here like what people use, motor setup (brush and spring combination) etc.
1. go with the intentions of having fun
2. set a personal goal and strive for that, don't expect to be a Amain driver even with years of RC experience it doesn't always happen
3. read and get ideas to make yourself and vehicle better. Read the vehicle forum section, read posts about what others are using, sites like Associated have information on gearing - setup used by racers, get magazines that have reviews on your vehicle(s).
4.Practice, spend a day at track practicing - here you can take your time, try different things to see what increases speed - lowers your lap time. Here you are able to take your time so if it doesn't work you have plenty of time to try something else. Take a notebook or copy a setup sheet to keep notes, refer to those for future reference.
5. Don't forget those that helped you, pass along that experience to others
