blue masking tape. Its only about an inch and a half wide, so you need to use quite abit, especially for making it thick. But so far its working great, its more papery than other tapes ive used and my car tends to leak grease and oil off the engine and muffler. THe tape soaks up the oil, but remains sticky on the chassis, unlike the very thin clear packaging tape I had previously used. Looks pretty good too because I trimmed it pretty good around the chassis:cool: If anyone wants a pic I can host one

Not a bad idea, but I would be worried that it could be a fire risk. I don't know that it is or isn't, but foreign material around a hot engine would always worry me.

I just use clear contact paper. It's cheap, sticks well, and protects pretty good. Just put 2 layers on and you are set. Also, you can get them in color.

also, i doubt its a fire risk, the head only gets up to 250f or so, and this is a good inch away from the engine, the muffler doesnt really heat up too much and teh head pipe kinda does, but its still about 3/4 inch away from the top of the chassis anyway. After a couple tanks, ive felt the bottom of the chassis and it is warm under the engine, but nowhere near even hurting your hand

stangeroo: you can get contact paper (there's actually a brand name of the same too) at pretty much any store such as Wal Mart, Target, etc. I've seen it at my local grocery, but the selection was limited. At Wal Mart, they sell it in the household goods section... should be within an aisle or two of the plastic storage containers.

I bought this slippery, strong clear film at a ski shop that skiers use to protect their skis. I plan on using it on my new 1/8 LP and a Bolink Nitro Dragster I have.
