How susceptible are RC electronics to corrosion? I want to store everything in my basement, and it's not overly damp down there. However, at my old house, I left a PKP2 motor down there for about 2 months, and when I pulled it down, the entire cap was green corroded crud.
I've thought about a dehumid, but those babies run $200+.

keep it in a sealed plastic case, and liberally spray wd40 on any metal

I thought WD-40 was corrosive, too?
Anywho, unfortunately putting everything in sealsed plastic cases just isn't practical. We're talking about radios, ESCs, motors, etc. I'm trying to think of any other reason why that P2K2 would have corroded the way it did, but the only thing I can think of was that it was stored in the basement :( .

Its a rust preventive, atleast thats what it says on the front. Take the batteries out of the radios first, then take a clean, dry cloth and wipe the battery contacts down. esc you shoudl be fine with. i don't think normal air would corode a motor. did it get wet at all?

It may have had some excess flux on it, but that's all I can think of.

I'd got for it, your Rc gear is worth way more than that, get a good second hand one and plumb it up to work 24/7

Only in the very long term and it's microscopic, only a concern when used as ARO for nitro engines.

Very true... well, do you guys think that a 40-pint dehumidifier would take enough moisture out of the air to be safe for my R/C gear?

I guess it would depen on the size and dampness of your basement!
- 40pint/hour is a fair bit, but it your bassment is really dam, ie pouring though the walls....

Nah, it's not that... I'll give the dehumid a shot.
Thanks!

Also, make sure yuo get one that has an auto cut off, so if it starts geting really dry it switchs off automatically. Othewise you will have the cheap checking it all the time.
