Hey Guys,
I'm getting extremely close to actually buying materials for my 32' nitro powered Deep Vee project and it has just come to my attention that the plywood I was planning on using is quite pricey. This is what I think I'll need for the hull:

One 3/32 x 12 x 48 sheet
One 1/8 x 12 x 48 sheet
One 3/16 x 6 x 12 sheet.

From what I have seen, the 12x48 sheets of birch plywood cost from $15 to $25 :( . Does that sound expensive, or is that just what it costs?

Also, several people have suggested using "Door Skin" the thin, laminated plywood-like wood used for veneer on doors. Apparently, I can get about 4x8 FEET of this stuff for $15. Does anybody have any experience with using this for building boats? Does it hold up?
Thanks!

Try this place, it's closer to you than some of the other sites that I have. most of their prices are pretty close, most within cents of each other and this place has a good rep: http://www.lonestar-models.com/

Door skin is about as strong as a wet noodle unless coated with glass and is as absorbant as a sponge. Your wood selections have me a little confused though. In all the wood hydros I've built, the boats have 1/4 inch 5 ply for the transoms, 1/8th 5 ply for any unsupported lengthwise frames, while everything else is 1/16th due to it's light weight and flexibility. Why use 3/16ths and 3/32nds?

Yeah, I decided to avoid the doorskin! I just ordered a bunch of wood from that Lonestar place that Ron suggested. I don't know what kinda shipping they use, but I should be in business in a week or less! Now I just gotta keep up the eBay sales of all my previous models to keep the funds rolling in! I love eBay ;)
