Hey,
Recently I've noticed some posts about moddifying those tyco canned heat cars. I have info on upgrading motors, batteries, wheels and tires and adding a little suspension. If you want some of this info e-mail me.

I added three more cells to mine and it ripped. Use nicads or metal hydrides, they put out alot more juice. you can mount the batts on the outside of the chassis, remove the switch for clearance and pull a batt to turn on-off.

Here ya go:
<hr>
Tools You Need:
Soldering iron
Solder (Rosin core, not acid core)
Mini-phillips screwdriver
A little cash and patients
Motor:
I recommend using Tamiya Mini 4wd motors such as the Jet-Dash, Ultra-Dash or Mach-Dash, which are all a good choice for your canned heat vehicle. You can find these motors for a little under $9 at www.towerhobbies.com. (http://www.towerhobbies.com.)
Here are the specs of the Tamiya motors:
Description|Power Consumed|(With Load)RPM|(Without Load)RPM|Torque|
Hyper-Dash Motor 1600mA 17200 19300 10
Mach-Dash Motor 1900mA 20800 23400 10
Rev Tuned Motor 1500mA 14300 17600 10
Torque Tuned Motor 1200mA 12000 13600 10
Ultra-Dash Motor 4000mA 24000 29000 20
Jet Dash Motor 4000mA 23000 28000 22
Plasma-Dash Motor 4100mA 25000 29000 20
Atomic-Tuned Motor 1300mA 15700 18700 10
1. With your screwdriver remove the car body. Be careful with the screws since they are easy to loose.
2. Examine the motor and gearbox. There may be screws holding in the gearbox, if so remove them. Find the 4 tabs on the sides of the gearbox and pry them outward gently with your screwdriver and lift of the gearbox cover.
3. Now the motor should be exposed. If there are wires soldered to the motor, unsolder them and take out the old motor. Keep the capacitor.
4. You can use the stock pinion on the new motor or buy a pack of Mini 4WD pinions at Tower Hobbies.
5. Put in the new motor and solder on the capacitor and wires on the motor terminals.
6. Put the gearbox cover back on and screw the body in place
7. Have fun!
Batteries:
I recommend NiCd batteries since they last long and are rechargable. Just buy AA size NiCd's at radio shack along with a charger and pop them inplace of the old alkaline batteries. You can also add a third battery if you open the car up, remove the 2 yellow wires from the on/off switch and connect a battery to those wires. 3 AA NiCd's offer plenty of power to your vehicle. Try to find batteries with a good mA rating (1000mA+).
Tires and Wheels:
The best wheel/tire kit that fits good is the #15112 SUPER LH TIRE/WHEEL SET found at Tower Hobbies for about $5.
1. Remove the wheels from the front and rear axles and replace them with the new wheels (A little glue may be used)
2. Then just slip the tires on
3. If the wheels rub against the body at all just sand a bit of the plastic away
These tires will add better traction and offer a soft landing for jumps

Ok, that's basically all the worthy performance mods, your canned heat vehicle will be a true racer now! Hope I was able to help. E-mail me if you have any further questions.
Later,
EJ

Thanx man, now that sounds fun, and only cost me a few dollars. I could see one of those little jokers flying around my little bitty house.
Which motor did you put in yours?

I bet these cars can fly now. One thing, these cars all seem to pull to one side when accelerating, do you have a mod for keeping it straight?
By the way, I'm not a doctor so I don't have any patients. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif
