I saw posts about making custom a chassis with carbon fiber. I was wondering if it is hard to cut the material and what to cut it with. Carbon fiber chassis are very expensive, so I was thinking about making my own...
Carbon fiber isn't fun to cut,but to cut it you would use a router. It's messy!

I tried drilling through a carbon fiber shock tower and it all but stopped the drill press I was using, seconds later I smelled smoke...not good. The eaisiest way is to machine it, if you know any one who works there that can help you.

You will need a carbide treated bit, blade or end mill. The carbide is important (and expensive) because it is harder than the carbon fiber you want to cut. Milling is the best was to cut out a chassis if you have access to an milling machine. Most IMPORTANT!!! YOU MUST WEAR A RESPIRATOR!! the dust produced is a carcinogen. I have made a top plate for my RC10GT and it ended up costing me more than if I bought one (my time and yours is worth something) it took me about 10 hrs all said and done. The carbon stock isn't cheap either. Good luck!

Hey what about some anodized aluminum? I would mind making a brace out of the stuff to help against flex. Kind of like how RCCA did their jump turcks, they layered botht the stock plastic and the aluminum together, Only I would use smaller amounts of aluminum to form a brace. Is that stuff hard to cut and where can you find sheets of it?
