I have a 14 year old Tamiya GrassHopper that I recently resurrected. The BEC in it was toast but the rest of the RC was in good shape. I threw in a Airtronics BEC and Blazer radio system that I took out of my RC10T4 SE.
Wonder if I can still buy tires for this old beast. They are bald and the LHS does not carry them. Hmmmm wonder why?
Taking it to the track tomorrow for a rump in the dirt. This old beast has not seen dirt in 10 years and just has been sitting on a shelf looking pretty.

Does the rear use the Blackfoot hub? If so, HPI makes a set of adapters for their Super Star wheels that will work (Trim a little lip off the adapter and any 12mm hex wheel will fit). HPI also makes bearing adapters for the front end, or you could simply replace the front axles and steering knuckles with newer units to fit the wheels you want.

I was just out on Tamiya's Website and it looks like they have reintroduced the 1984 Hornet which appears use the same rear diff, hubs and tires as my Grasshopper uses.

Maybe I can find parts from this that I can beef up the old Grasshopper.
The Grasshopper rocked on the track except for the bald rear tires, it jumped well and cornered great for the vintage R/C that it is.

I love the look of that rear end housing, very beefy and well sealed from the looks of it.

Glad to hear you're having fun with the oldies!! ;) I guess I'm gonna have to get my old Blackfoot (circa 1987!) off the shelf and see what it would take to get it going again! I used to have a blast running that old truck! The hard plastic body sure takes a beating though!!

There are not many of us that did not totally kill them when we got them and must say I still have every R/C I ever owned except one. My first was a Cox dragster that ran on a string and that was about 1975.
My Grasshopper still has the Mechanical speed control. The old tubs are stronger then we think but definitely do not have the durability of today’s buggies and trucks. While I was at the track with it a couple of dudes came up to say had one and they killed theirs.
