Here's a couple of great places to learn more about airbrushing (http://www.airbrushtechnique.com/airbrushforum/forumdisplay.php?f=155) and applying it to RC. (http://www.rctech.net/articles/painting_hauntedmyst.shtml)
Have fun!

Also if there is a Michaels craft store near you you might want to check with them, I believe they hold airbrush classes as well. Which paasce is it? I use the VL, and I really like it. As far as the compressor, it will work fine however there are two things you will want to add to it, a moisture trap, and a pressure regulator. Then you will have a very nice airbrush set up. Hope this helps.

leadfoot, can i use createx on rc car bodies? can i spray it on? is it expensive to buy? i use to work at BEN FRANKLINS CRAFT STORE n we never offered airbrushing classes, gee that was like almost 8 yrsa go. i do have a micheals about 4 towns over so i ill give them a call tommorrow n see whats up? thanx!
i sprayed a body years ago with spray cans n i jsut sprayed a hpi buggy body but the paint ran threw the window masks n now i have like run marks on the windows?????
i actually used yrs ago reg kyrlon spray paint to paint my stampedes body n i gave it to a friend to fix n he got the truck running n it fell off his work bench n the body just shattered when it hit the floor, i learned the hard way u cant use reg spray paint on lexan cause it somehow weakens it.
krylon now makes a paint call fusioion n its for plastics n i just sprayed my pumpkins body n it works great n drys fast in like 15 mins!

Fester, the createx that's sold at Michael's will work fine on RC bodies. In fact, it works quite well on them, and when bought at Michael's, it'll save you a few dollars. Yes, you spray it with an airbrush and being that's it's designed for polycarbonate it will not weaken the body.
Some times, Michael's does offer arts and crafts classes. If the Michael's near you does not, chances are, some one there will recommend a place to you. Many ceramic shops that allow customers to get shop time will offer airbrush classes.

I bought my Paasche VLST Pro Wood kit from Dixieart. That was the best price I found anywhere and it even included free shipping. I think the free shipping applies to orders over $45 but if you buy an airbrush kit, that'll fill the bill.
I guess I'm gonna have to call another Michael's store in town. I visited the one near me recently and they had tons of paint for doing crap like goofy puffy designs on sweatshirts (can you say "still preoccupied with 1985" folks?) but not a drop of Createx in the entire place. Their airbrush "section" consists of one small glass case with two Badger airbrushes and no accessories. Yawn-o-rama. The Hobby Lobby near me isn't much better. They carry a few airbrushes, but no airbrush paints. Some idiot there tried to sell me Testor's tiny little model paint jars. Oy vey.

Fester, resize your pics to about 600X400 and you'll be set. You need to keep your pics under 71k. Best way is to find a free pic hosting site like Villagephotos.com

i sprayed a body years ago with spray cans n i jsut sprayed a hpi buggy body but the paint ran threw the window masks n now i have like run marks on the windows?????To solve that problem (which can happen using an airbrush too), put a very light coat on to begin with, then add a bit more for the second coat after that dries, then a bit more for the third. That may be all you need, but a fourth should certainly do it.
No need to hold the body up to a 200 watt bulb and look for thin spots... what you're looking for is making it look right outdoors from standing above it with a transmitter in your hand.
With as little paint on it as possible.

Fester, I don't have my own car so I have to rely on others when they are heading to a certain part of town, so I haven't been to the other nearest Michael's. I should call them and hope that I can get someone on the line who knows where things are in the store to see if they sell Createx at that location. Most of the time when I call places like that I'm lucky if I get someone on the line who knows anything about what they sell.

hey kitty, good news ,i went to micheals today n they had it but only 2 bottles of each color n maybe 15 different colors. it was $3.69 a bottle here in NY. n i also picked up a cheap set of paint brushes. right now i dont have a a airbrushing kit so i was gonna hand paint the body, u think that can be done?i know its gonna take time but what the heck, lol until i get a a/b setup. i am doing a red/yellow flame job with pearl purple as the rest of the color of the truck body!
i forgot to ask about the airbrushing classes though silly me,lol

Fifteen different colours is better than no Createx at all. From what I've seen online, that price looks pretty good. Congrats on finding the paint!
I'm not sure about hand painting the shell, but then I've never tried it. I would think that the brush marks would show way too easily. You can pick up a cheapie airbrush on eBay for around $10 or if you have a Harbor Freight Tools nearby, they run sales on the same ones occasionally. They're single-action, external mix, but hey, they're airbrushes and I've even seen pros use them for covering larger areas.

hey kitty ! my friend mike airbrushed a pick up body saturday for me n he didnt use the createx paint, he said it wouldnt hold up due to it being water based! he used testers model paint. did u ever paint a rc car body with createx? check this out though u can use the krylon fusion paint but u cant use it in conjuction with the testors or pactrea paint cause the krylon run right threw the testors paint, my other friend said the krylon is liek a acid n it went threw the paint to actaully stick to the lexan it sounds weird but taht explain it i guess!
yeah my friend mike used a blow dryer to speed up the painting process n it worked good! i will have to post them as soon as i get it back he has to trim it for me.

Fester, enamel paints won't hold up too well on lexan. Enamels, like testors model paints, do not have the flexibility nor the greater adhesion quality necessary for RC car bodies.
It matters little whether it's a water based (acrylic) or a lacquer based, as long as it's designed for polycarbonate surfaces (RC car bodies) it'll work. I run mostly nitro and paint with almost exclusively acrylics. I don't have problems with fuel ruining the paint job. Of course, I also don't soak the body in fuel to test it either. :D
Pactra makes acrylics and lacquers. If you use the acrylic and then spray a lacquer over it, the suspension medium (lacquer thinner) has a tendency to work it's way through the acrylic and ruin the paint job. You can spray acrylics over lacquers with no problems, but lacquers over acrylics usually end in disaster for most people.
