If you are looking to run in the sand you will need either a buggy or an Monster Truck. Nitro engines would work better for your cause but if you haven't had any experience with them they can be mad frustrating. Electrics will work also.

as far as cleaning you can use a rag or some of the various washing substances out there.

Sounds like you need a monster truck, something like a Stampede or an MRC Ironman. They have exceptional ground clearance, are affordable, super tough, and can be made sand-proof with little to no $$. One sand-proofing method found over and over again in the RCCA Tips & Tricks is to put foam around the electric motor so no sand gets in there- you know, the kind used in mattress pads and stuff. It has to be very porous so the motor can breathe, yet dense enough to filter out sand and dirt. Stampedes and their like can be outfitted with better tires for the sand, and they're tall enough to keep out of trouble.

Matt is right, the Stampede would be a great car for you. What is better than foam to place over the motors, is Air Filter element, like that in your furnace, and some swamp cooler filters.

Electrics are great, and so are Nitro, but Nitro cars get dirty, fast, so electric sounds like a better plan for you.

If you need any more help, just ask

I'm with Mattski on this one. A Traxxas Stampede would be a great truck for you. Its durable, affordable, parts are easily available, and its a fun truck that can be hopped up nicely.

Hi All, I have been reading your boards for a little while and you all seem to be informative. But I have one question. At the current time I do not have a R/C car. I am looking into getting one but I am not sure if there is one that would work for my purpose. Let me tell you what I am looking for. We spend a lot of time in Myrtle Beach, SC, and I am looking for an RC car that is designed to hold up to sand. Basiclly what I need to know is is there one designed for running on the beach or is there a chance that you can just clean it really well once you are done?? :) Also which would be the better motor to have? A nitro or and Electric? Any information that you can give me would be greatly appreciated!! ibslick16@aol.com

I suggest you get the Hpi RS4 MT because of the fact it is a monster truck like everyone here agrees that it's best and the best part bout this truck is that you can get a dirt cover, a body underneath the body that covers all electronics and is firmly attached to the chassis, i also suggest you you dynamite sealed bearings (so sand doesn't get in) and you should also seal teh tranny (bullet proof your vehicle article in RCCA), you also should get the dirt paw tires to claw through the sand!

Thats the longest sentace I ever read, lol.

On another note; the Stampede is a great truck. Nearly indestructable for messing around, and almost all hobby shops carry parts for it if something were to break. They're easy to clean, and protect from sand and even water. (My friend put that latex foam stuff and wrapped it around the chassis to protect the electronics from snow. His whole car would be white, but hwen he took the foam off, whatever it covered was clean). Very nice basher, and if you want to hop it up, its got many parts at hand.

The sand paw tires Pro-Line makes look a little funky on the Stampede. They will fit fine (same rims as the Rustler), but will look a little small for the pede. The stock tires should be fine.
