hi i am new to this hobby and am interested in an r/c nitro truck, and am asking for suggestions. i was thinking about a revo, or an mgt. what would be better? what are the pros and cons of each?
on ebay i was doing a search and found two listing that looked good, and was wondering if they would be any good.
Revo

It appeard that this has everything i need to run, how much is this worth? would it be better to buy it new?
i also saw an mgt new.

it seems to be much cheaper than the revo, but quality wise, would i be better with a revo or mgt. i would like to race in the future, and have read that the revo is a good race truck, but is the mgt better?
all suggestions, comments, tips open!
Thanks!
John

Welcome Speedster!
A few questions.
1) Where and how are you planning to run the truck? Are you going to run it around your yard (bashing)? Or, do you plan on racing? The revo would be a great bet for racing. Either for bashing.
2) Do you have experience with RC at all? I ask because I want to know if you are aware of Stadium Trucks like the Losi XXX-nt and the Associated RC10GT. They offer a nice starting point (all the way to competitive racing) and generally work well on all but very rough terrain or tall grass. There are also 1/8 scale buggies which aren't typically the best bet for newcomers.
Be sure to use the search button to look around here for a while before deciding. I must have asked 30 questions before deciding what to be for myself. Most everyone here will be quite helpful.
Welcome!

the MGT will be MUCH more durable then the revo, and is a more versitile truck then the revo. THe revo is a race bread design so unless you plan on racing in 1/10th scale truggy I would get a Monster GT, for 1. It's EXTREAMLY easy to tune, with the revo you will find you have tuning problems with the 2.5 R. But you alone need to decide, I own a MGT and it's awesome , not one broken part after 7 gallons or HARD bashing. it's up too you. not us.

well i was keen on a monster truck, because i would like to jump and stuff. i had a r/c plane that was gas but i got rid of it. i have looked at the traxxas rustler, and the rc10gt, but i would like something 4 wheel drive that can go over rought terrain.
do you think either of those trucks are worth buying? if so how much do you think they are worth. the revo(1st link) looks like it has everything i would need, it says about an O.S. engine, thats the same brand as my plane engine was. is it any good? thanks

I can not speak on the Revo because I have never seen one. I have the MGT, and it is a fantastic truck. I bought it last summer, and bashed the *^%$ out of it. Now I plan on racing it this summer. Since this is going to be your first nitro monster truck, I would say get a brand new one. That way you know that the truck & engine was not abused, and you will get the manuals with it. Good luck.

I would get a new one as well. Or, a used one sold at your LHS and a promise to help you out if you need it.
If you go ebay, you could get a piece of crap. And nothing can be more frustrating that trying to start an obscenely stubborn engine. Blisters from pullstarts suck.

this is too funny, that my revo that i put on ebay! thats too funny!
i honestly have to say that the revo was a tough first truck, the 2.5r was a hard engine to tune, but the O.S. engines are alot easier, ask anyone about O.S. reliability an ease of tuning and they will tell you how nice they are. the truck was very well taken care of and i learned everything i learned was from the guys here and on other forums! they are great! the reason im selling it is there is no one around me that has a truck, and the nearest track is 45 mins. away, yet there is an airfield 1 mile from my house. so my interests hav faded into R/C aircraft.
the auction has everything you need to get started except for a fuel bottle and fuel.

Stadium trucks an 1/8 buggies can jump just like the MT's too BTW. The 1/8 buggies can even jump over a house under it's own power and land to drive where ever it wants to again. But MT's are still an awesome truck too. So either way you go, it's all good! :D
I would say the MGT. Why? The engine would be easier to tune(Traxxas motors are harder to tune) and it seems a little more simple in suspention wire compared to the revo's F1 style of suspention(can tell your into the suspention/jumping from your posts). Just seems to be be a little easier to work on IMO from the looks of it. I havn't owned either of the two, so I wouldn't trust my opinion like some of the other guys info.
But I have owned a xxx-nt. It worked awesome, the turning was easy for me as a beginer. Just seemed like a nice truck all the way around, 100% beginer friendly too!

From what I have seen the revo is geared more too the racer, not the noobie. I was parking lot bashing at the LHS and the revo was awesome on pavement and smooth surfaces but off road it could not keep up with my MGT and my friends savage and this other guys LST. We littery had one of every current truck running that day. and The Monster GT and savage where the best. THe LST kept having engine problems which I found amazing because I have heard that the mach .26 is awesome. so too awnser your question, out of the two truck, the Monster GT would be alot better then the revo because of the engine being so easy to tune you set the needle and then don't have to tuch it. I have had the same needle setting on mine for 2 gallons. And also the Monster gT is going to proform better on TRUE off road terrain, because like I and every one else says, the revo is a racer, not a off roader. It apears earaly similar to the t-maxx [the Monster gT] but trust me, it's not. PM me if you have any questions about the MGT.
