I've had terrible luck getting my decently painted bodies to fit right on my vehicles. I've marked them, used a reamer etc but still come out with bodies and holes that are in the wrong positions. What technique do you all use to ensure that your body fits well on the chassis? Do you take the wheels/pipe/obstructions off? Do you have some special laser-x-ray hole finder? How do you do it?
Thanks for your help!

Best way I've found is to cut out the body, lay it on the chassis lined up as best as possible. Next, mark all the body post holes. I then use a reamer to start the holes in the front of the body. Next, I'll put the body back on the chassis. Keeping the body posts snugged up against the small holes on the front of the body will help keep everything aligned while I double check the rear body posts. If they line up right, I'll start the holes with them. For most of the bodies, I'll finish out the holes just to make sure everything lined up. Once it's all cut, holes are reamed, and everything sits right, I'll prep the body for paint.

Thanks for the advice Piggy--I hadn't considering trimming the body down pre-paint. Next time I'll do it that way.

I have a special laser-x-ray hole finder that I got from Tower a few years ago for $4.95... it works great, but I don't use it in the house any more. I laid it down on the coffeetable and it was still on... it was facing the TV and burned a hole in the screen.
They don't sell them any more... I think people were using them to make their pets stay off the couch and it became an animal cruelty issue.

You've found the holy grail of body fitting NWB. I envy you.

NWB, how much do you want to sell yours for? I don't want to use it for animals, instead I have a lazy bro-in-law I'd like to get off my couch from time to time. :D

It's not for sale, but that sounds like a worthy cause... perhaps I could loan it to you. You pay the shipping both ways. Does this guy hog the whole couch when he comes to visit, or does he move in for days or weeks at a time when he doesn't have a girlfriend?
I bet what you really want it for is to open your own tattoo parlor.

Oh man, I got rid of my laser-x-ray hole finder, if I knew you would have needed one....I thought everyone had those.... :p

I didn't know everyone had one of those things until it was too late. I was trying to get one, but Harbor Freight stopped carrying them. Guess it's back to the electric cattle prod.

No I think you guys are thinking of a different model--the laser x-ray a-hole finder. :D
