XMods are toys
RCCA was made to cover real hobby grade RC's, not toy cars from radioshack.

i dunno.if mini-z are considered true rc,why not xmods?
personally i don't like either.there are 1/24 mini 4wd with real servos and esc and such but no one seem to be interessed
for those who are

Fluke I agree with you XMODS are what you guys term "real" rc cars...they have a motor esc, servo, wheels, a body, etc., etc. It has what most mini rc cars have...and yes I believe RADIOSHACK is the only company right now that makes hop ups...

No, actually there are many other companies that make hop-ups for it.

They are probably considered toys because Radio Shack sells them. And we all know the kind of quality r/c stuff they used to sell...

Hey, cool it on the Radio Shack bashing.
They are taking a step in the right direction.
This could be used as an entry car for future RCer's to enter the "real" RC world as you would say.
I am all for keeping the hobby up and running.
More people = More Demand
More Demand = Cheaper prices and faster technological advances (yes, even your non-radio shack RC could be better)
Cheaper prices = More people to race and bash with.. better tracks.. more hobby shops...
Do you see what I am saying??
Ok, that was unnecessary, but true.

let me state my ideas clearly:for me,if the hpi dash, kyosho @12 and mini-z are said to be "true rc" you must accept XMODS too.
for me,"true rc" is anything on which you have wireless control usind radio signal.my cars are more evolved(i like to say pro cars) than the nikko ones but the use the same principle and sometimes share frequencies(ever had a glitch 'cause a kid was playing his car nearby?i did)
this being said,i say XMODs are true rc and some look really sweet.

I say Xmods are great bang for the buck toys and it's neat toying with them. The aftermarket support for them is sick, and when you want to upgrade a motor, you can't just stick in an ESC (unless you gut it and put a new Rx and servo in there too). You gotta FET the board, so it'll teach you about electronics as you make it faster and more performance oriented. A big plus in my book that can carry over to larger scale RCs.:D

I'm not a fan of x-mods - but it's an rc.
I remember in one issue of RCCA - a guy won a $120,000 tricked out Acura NSX for racing x-mods (I think in Japan). Thats prolly the biggest rc racing prize ever awarded. or at least that I've seen.

What seperates true rc's and radio shack trucks/cars is what there made of. Xmods and all the other CRAP they make is made from hard plastic everything. True rc's are made out of composite materials, graphite, aluminum, carbon fiber, titanium, steel, etc. Way stronger and resistant to breaking. Plus radioshack rc's arent fast at all. Im not trying to start a forum fight but I mean come on guys/ladies, where do all the really little kids get their rc's? RADIOSHACK. Lets face it radioshack cars are crap. Oh yeah and no they dont have everything REAL rc cars have. Slipper clutches, i dont even think they have a differential, cvds, its the little things like this that make a rc car a true rc car. Oh yeah and if you will take the time to go to www.radioshack.com why dont you look at how you get to the xmods page...you go to the link button that says TOYS AND GAMING then down to xmods custom rc. See radioshack even calls them toys. If anyone wants to debate this, instant message me on my aim screenname baseballiswutido

onced i saw and evader on toys'r'us.com and it was under the toy category so your last point is just stupid.
the tamiya race toureg also has a plastic chassis, does it make it a toy?
graphite, alu or ti are materials used in what you call "true rc" to make them faster 'cause we race them.if nikko wanted to enter racing scene, they would have made graphite kits as well but they just wanted to make kids happy and they are doing it quite well.to do so,they don't need high end equipement so that's why they don't bother making what you call 'true rc'(not to mention it would raise the price)

For one thing fluke learn how to spell...another thing is that your second point is incorrect and i can tell you dont know your stuff very well. For one thing that tamiya race toureg is made out of abs plastic (ABS is a copolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene) which is medium strength plastic. What radioshack plastic is made of is one step down from abs. It is what we call standard plastic (PVC, polyethylene, polystyrene, etc.). The difference is strength and cost. Radio shack uses standard plastic. Low cost and low strength. The tamiya race toureg uses abs plastic, medium strength medium cost. So yes the tamiya race toureg is a true rc. Another thing on the evader is that toys'r's isnt the manufacturer of the Evader. Duratrax is. So that's the opinion of toys'r'us not duratrax. Which also makes your second point incorrect. Another thing is nikko is a toy manufacturer for kids. I never even talked about nikko in my last post so dont start talking about other toy companys fluke. Sure xmods have SOME parts that true rc's have but almost everything in them is standard plastic. Even the gears are plastic.

So you think XMODS aren't fast...I have seen some XMODS that go up to 22mph...and they are 1/26th scale...so it looks reeeaaallllyyyy fast...so don't be sayin they are slow at least until you try one...& geez guys they only cost $50 the way you guys throw your money at hopups that don't do anything you mine as well try one...sry I don't mean to be insulting
thewarrenator
03-13-2005, 06:35 PM
well their not fast compared to my trucks and cars. 50+ mph. sure they look like there goin pretty fast but there not really. 50 bucks could get me a new motor that does do something. hopups do do things. improve strength and durability, speed, handling etc.
Newdude
03-13-2005, 07:14 PM
$50 for a motor that would be a pretty cheap motor...and yes your trucks can go to 50mph but I bet you probaly paid about $300 for each of your trucks and these are only $50

true, its a choice you have to make, but id rather go with high class stuff and be able to do things with them that i cant do with much else. im all team losi and team associated. not radioshack. 1/6 the cost for 1/6 the fun thats how i see it. yes i have driven an xmod. i dont think they're that much fun. so i dont buy one.

Ok see your point is valid..you've tried them and decided you don't like them...but it's the people who just right when they see radioshack on the label they immedieatly assume it's a peice of crap, and that just really makes me mad...all i'm asking is for people to try XMODS like the warrenator and then make their decision...

I think they are pretty cool! I have TONS of RC stuff, but I was going to get a couple of these for my friends and I for the winter months so we could have some "cellar" racing :) I realy don't think that a monthly column in RCCA is gonna happen, but that doesn't mean that these little guys aren't fun or any less "real" of an RC car. They are deifnately a "real" RC car in my book. Also, they are a FAR, FAR, FAR better deal than the Kyosho MiniZ. The XMods is $50 and the MiniZ runs WELL over $100!

yea that's why I like them they're inexpensive and good for the winter...yea it probaly won't happen but I just wanted to see who was interested in Xmods...

i like xmods to there fun to drive when i cant run my nitro cars all i have is nitro cars buggy's and trucks so the xmods is a fun little car to run around the house and cheaper then a mini-z witch saves money for some upgrade for the xmods and my nitro cars.
