Joe - You got it! We're not just testing competition engines, we're testing 'em all.
SWEET! Be sure to test the Nova, picco, and OS .12's and .15s. And also dyno the Picco .15 standard exhaust and OS .12 CV-R http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif my 2 engines http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif. Thanks Steve-now is that money tree REALLY bare out in front? I hope you got patents to it...

Yes, finally proof to show that all that cash might just not be worth it for the top o' the line engines.
Or maybe it will be proven that it is worth the cash.
I hope you do test them ALL. ALL the RTR and "kit included" engines too. Not just the big dollar boys.
I'll be tuned in to see the reviews.

I just wanted to let you know that our new nitro engine dyno is finally here! I've been working with a dyno manufacturer for about a year, developing a precision dyno made exclusively for testing of RC nitro engines - the first of it's kind to my knowledge.
Some testers have used dynos originally developed for other purposes to test nitro engines, but they have an unacceptable margin of error because they're not designed for these engines, which have a very lopsided torque/RPM ratio. Other's have used propeller-based testing, requiring a wide range of propellers to establish a load range. Our new dyno is computer operated using the latest in sensor and load technology, which provides the most precise measurement of performance EVER in the history of RC - by a large margin I might add. It not only has the best technology with repsect to measuring performance, it's capable of taking into account and correcting for atmospheric conditions such as barometric pressure, ambient temperature and humidity based on guidlines established the Society of Automotive Engineers.
Our first engine tests will appear in the Dec. issue of Nitro. These are somewhat abbreviated tests because of the late date the dyno was received. I would have preferred more conclusive tests, but time simply wasn't on our side for the first round. We will have more in-depth tests in each future issue of the nitro magazine, experimenting with different exhaust systems and header lengths. I can assure you that these subsequent tests will be the most conclusive, comprehensive tests ever done in the RC industry, another first for Nitro and Sister publication RC Car Action. We are currently the only magazine in the world with a nitro engine dyno, making this the latest in a long list of examples where we have been the first to bring our readers technology to quantify the performance of vehicles and power systems. Contrary to false claims that you may have seen elsewhere, Car Action and Nitro Magazine are the first to bring you battery tests using a Competition Electronics Turbo Matcher 4 (established as the industry standard), The first to bring you standardized electric motor tests using a Robitronic Pro-Master motor dyno, the first to quantify certain aspects of vehicle performance using the radar-based ultra-sophisticated Stalker ATS system (or any radar system for that matter), and now the first and only to bring you engine performance testing, which will include the most accurate data EVER! All of this equipment and technology is in-house, not commissioned testing from potentially unqualified testers. We have all this equipment under our roof, allowing us to maintain the highest standards in testing.
If it sounds like I'm beaming with pride, I am. I'm a hobbyist and racer that have always wanted to know, with mathematical precision, how certain things perform and how modifications further effect performance.
If there is anything specific you'd like to see with respect to engine testing, let me know. The possibilities are endless, but I'd like to know what everyone would REALLY like to see on a regular basis.

steve will a dyno such as the one you speek of be available to the public? i know hole shot racing was making a dyno but no one has heard a word from them since the hobby show last year. i would be intrested in purchasing one so i can do my home mods to see what works and what dosent

NJ - they will be available to the general public, but the price tag is into 5 digits. I researched less expensive options, but there's nothing that has a acceptable margin of error that's more economical.

5 digits as in 12345.00. Ouch! I don't know of anywhere you can send your engine to be tested because dynos for these engines are very rare. I'd help you out, but I have a full schedule just testing for the magazine.

Hey Steve,
Can you give us a small teaser? Maybe the dyno results of one engine? (A .15FE maybe?) Just think of the sales boost...nitro mags flying off the shelves...tons of subcription requests...and they would owe everything to you Steve.
P.S. I've already sent in my subscription request.

Hey Steve. Yes, you sound proud, and you should be. Thanks for letting us know what we have to look forward too. I am a new subscriber (2 months), and it's comforting to know you guys are cutting edge. One more plug for you also. I get a kick out of how good all your writers and administration connect with us sandlot boys out here in Littletown America. You have time for the bashers, AND the racers. It makes everyone of us feel like we are important. Thank you. That sort of treatment is not easy to find in this day and age. ROCK ON!!

GMAn - I'm going to have to start paying you if you keep it up! LOL! I'm happy you enjoy the magazine. All the Editors are racers and enthusiasts, so we really like to hang with fellow racers and the like. Thanks again. I hope to have some really interesting test results from the dyno. The first round of testing was somewhat brief because I didn't have much time at all to do the testing I'd like to do, but the subsequent tests are going to be killer. Hope you enjoy it.

Steve, I'm hoping to make it to Chicago in October....bring me a T-shirt! Just kidding, but I do hope to meet you guys up there. Are you bringing the dyno along? Also, bring the 3 T-Maxx's, I'd like to check them out!
