View Full Version : Good Touring/On Road Car?

More newbie questions... :)
I was wondering if I can get some suggestions on what a good Touring Car would be. I had heard the TA TC3, TC4 and RC10L3 are pretty decent, however I heard the TC3 isn't really a newbie car as it can break easily. I heard the TC4 is pretty decent but if you want to race it on a track, you need to buy some extra parts for it.
Basically, I am looking for something in the 1/10 scale, can be driven by a newbie, fairly strong, can be raced decently on an indoor track. I want it to be fairly upgradable though, so the car can "grow" with me. I also don't want to spend a tonne... $150-200 for the kit would be ideal.

Definately get the TC4. It is extremely durable, can easily be upgraded, and is race worthy if you choose to race ever.

I've been reading about the TC4 here and on the RCUniverse site and it appears most people really like it. I think I am going to wait a bit though and see if I get into racing at the local indoor hobby track, and if I do, I will pick it up.
I just blew about 1200 on a Axis Nitro and Evader BX Pro so I think I want to perhaps wait a bit before getting another one ;) Also, I heard it might be worth waiting for the Factory kit of the TC4.

If you can get parts for it easily, I would go for the Xray T1R. IMO it is better than the tc4(the tc4 is great and all) because it has more tuning options and if you really wanted to, you could upgrade it the the FK. You get top notch quality and a awesome car for the price.

There are a few great kits out there. I"d suggest getting whatever car you can get parts for.
If your looking for something you can upgrade as you go, then the TC4 would be an excellent choice. This fits in your budget.
For all out, no compromise, tough as nails, built like an onroad tank, I'd say the Xray T1. Expect to pay $300+

go with xray....i know parts may be scarce in some areas, but RC America is doing things to change that, plus i know of a few good mail orders that get things shipped to you overnight (no matter where you live) ... i have an Xray T1Raycer for sale...check out my thread in the for sale/trade forums.....its brand new with only about 20 minutes of time on everything.....

the t1R is totally upgradeable also,, but all you really need to make this car insane is a BMI chassis......

Thanks for the info guys.
I think what I am going to do is go to the local track next week and meet the people there and check it out. If I think On Road racing is for me, I am going to order the TC4.
Why? It seems like it gets really good reviews from people. The stock version doesn't seem to be the best, but everybody says the upgrades make it into an awesome car.
As well, Tower carries a LARGE amount of parts and upgrades for this car and thats a major factor for me. The TC3 seems to have been well supplied for the last 3-5 years and I think the TC4 will be as well, and thats fairly important to me.

What are good online hobby shops to get parts for the X-Ray?

stormerhobbies.com sells xray parts. I get mine through my LHS most of the time.

I don't know if I would want to be waiting for delivery evey time I broke an arm, hub-carrier etc. :)

I bought a TC3 as my first car then after tiring of breaking A Arms from the least little tap, I bought a T1R. My first race with it I dropped over a second and a half from the week before on the TC3.
As far as ordering parts...the only things i have broken in a year of racing it weekly. 2 rear hub carriers, 3 Caster blocks, 2 steering blocks.
Order 3 sets of each of those, 1 pair of arms, and you are set. Then if you break 1 order 2 or 3 more. Soon you have a little stockpile that you can live off of for a long time. Right now i have about 9 steering blocks for each side and about 6 c hubs. And I am not even remotely worried about anything else breaking.
I really, really wish I had never bought the TC3 and just started with the XRay. The TC3/4 is a good car and all, but they dont even compare to the XRays.

Thanks for the insight New92. Maybe I'll check out the Xrays. Do they have a website?

I think that there is a way to prevent breaking things.....Don't Hit Stuff. If you concentrate on driving good lines slow and practicing those you won't break nearly as much stuff. A friend of mine races modified with his TC3 and has probably only broken a couple of arms and C-hubs over the past few months. If you don't hit anything and drive a little slower than everyone else when they make the mistakes you will be able to capitalize on those. I do admit that the TC3/4 is more fragile than other cars but it has proved to be a worthy car.

If he is asking what car to get then he will hit things. I drive 500% better than I used to but I still hit things, sometimes I misjudge sometimes I am dodging someone. Even when I started with the TC3 I wasnt pipe to pipe, but sometimes things happen. I just dont really worry about it anymore with the xray lol.
