What are some good TC kits that can be raceable, but are not very expensive?
Usually the Team kits from the manufacturers out there do a great job for a budget racer. The TC4 is a team kit and I believe X-Ray has one as well. Those are two choices. There are others out there as well.

Schumacher mi2 S1- exactly the same as the carbon version, but carbon composite is used instead :)
You can probably fidn some great deals on TC3s now, which is very raceworthy, since the new TC4 is out now.

Team Associated's TC3 was and still is a very competitive car. I agree that you can probably pick one up relatively cheap.

I vote for the Losi XXXS. The sealed drivetrain is awesome in the parking lot, parts are everywhere, and there are setups online for just about every type of surface. AQlso, if you have nothing, the XXXS Sport kit is a great way to get started. Whatever you get, I am sure you will have fun ;)

I vote against the XXX-S. Performance is not the issue. It's maintenance and parts availability! 2001?, it's now 2005! That single belt is great when it's new, very soon you will find it skipping and you will need a new one. Theres reasons why nobody else makes a single belt car! Losi is even dropping the single belt for dual belt in the new car. Theres not that many of them around and they are getting phased out. A lot of places stop stocking parts for it.
If you're buying new and on a budget, consider the TC4. It's relatively inexpensive, parts are EVERYWHERE.
Buying used?, FT TC3, and find one from a racer(non-basher) and includes spare parts assortment.

The Losi XXXS is still being produced as the Sport 2, as a matter of fact it has received a minor facelift with a new ESC, motor, and body so it is definately not being phased out. The XXXS may not be the newest car but it is still more than capable of winning in the hands of a decent driver. At the very top level of competrtion, it may be a little outdated, but so is anything over a month old :D . As for the belt skipping, I have had my XXXS for quite a while with no belt problem, I even run it with my brushless!!

Can't forget the XRAY T1R for a budget racer. You pay the budget price but you feel you got a very nice kit(and you did). IMO it comes on top in the cars for the price and it can be upgraded to the fk kit with some moola.

Get the TC4. It has race proven capabilities from the TC3. Parts are everywhere you look. It's extremely durable and the drivetrain can easily hold up to anything you can throw at it. It also requires almost no maitenance.

What are you talking about????????? They're still making parts for this car and its not getting phased out. And whats this about the belt skipping??? You can adjust the belt to take out the slack ya know ? Belts stretch in a dual belt car too.

Yes, you can put in a belt tensioner when a belt stretches too much. But in racing, most of us would rather replace a belt than have to use a belt tensioner because of drag. Based on normal wear and tear, belts in a dual belt car last longer than single belt.
Even in high levels of racing, the XXXs holds up better than most would think. It's not a performance issue we're talking here. Parts may still be made, but the hobby shop stock grows and dies with popularity. If you have one, I won't say get rid of it. But if you are going to buy a car right now, I think the idea is to go for something more recent. Is it going to be easier for someone to get XXXS or TC3/4 parts 3 years from now?

With all due respect to you, it seems you don't know much about the XXXS. It already has a belt adjustment, it's part of the car. Parts for the XXXS will be available for quite some time. As far as recent, I would say the TC3 is just as old if not older that the XXXS. Also the TC4 will cost about $180-200, just for the kit. A XXXS Sport 2 can be had for about 260...that's with excellent electronics INCLUDED!! You have made your case for the TC3/4...just don't be so down on the XXXS ;) It'll be supported long after we ALL move onto other cars :)

I had both the TC3 and the XXX-S. Both can be good cars in the right hands. I prefered the TC3 for carpet racing however. the XXX-S just didn't feel as good as the TC3 or have the ease of finding a setup either on carpet.
Either vehicle will work well. Best bet, get a full FT version on ebay of either vehicle and make sure they have some spares with it too.

Prime example why you shouldnt be giving advice on a car you dont know about.......... The belt is adjusted with its built in tensioner............ And I do race the car,once a week so it is in a "racing" atmosphere.

More belts also equals more drag.
Stumper, what was the point of that post? I think someone already said the exact same thing.
I said "put in one" a little too quickly; I mean having to use one. Yes there is a belt tensioner in the drive train. But in any case for all belt and chain drives, any tensioners, additional pulleys or sprockets means more drag. Would it sound more efficient if they made a single belt car that doesn't need a tensioner?

xray...t1r for starters, t1fk for advanced, more technical racers..
i have my t1r up for sale....300 shipped with all electrics...just check out my thread in the for sale/trade forum.....
i will throw in my xxxs graphite plus for another 25 dollars...all it needs are tires and turnbuckles....
