I have an old, gold RC-10. I would like to get it working again. I live in Richmond, VA and I would love for someone to take a look at it and give me some advice on parts that need replacing and any other advice to get this thing running so I can play with it with my 5 year old son. I would prefer to bring it to someone in the Richmond area, but I suppose I could ship it to someone who could use spare parts to get it working. I would like to keep the restoration to less than $200.00.
It has a motor and ESC, it might just need new batteries. This stuff is 20 years old so... Any comments would be welcome.
Thank you.

Do you know that it doesn't work? There's only a couple of options here... batteries, esc, receiver and servo. Test each one and replace ones that don't work.... We can help you here on the board.

Or go buy it all, but you'd probably be over 200
well... you can probably find a radio that comes with ESC and standard servo, or at least 1 servo for around 80-120.

Lets say you go cheap FM for 120, and it comes with esc and servo, then you just need a motor and battery which you can find for under 80....

Up to you!

Thanks for the info. I guess I just need a good battery. My old one was a 7 cell. Who makes a good battery pack nowadays? I might find the old car will work with the original (ancient) parts. I work on PCs and I'm like the person who wants their PC "looked over" by a professionsal, except in this case, a RC car.

First off, welcome aboard man! :D

One of my favorite things to do in this hobby is buy old junkers off eBay and restore them, and I have long ago decided I'm an AE fan. :D I've rebuilt several gold pans. As a last resort, ask around here for references - I'd be glad to restore it for you. But first . . .

One of the best things about this hobby is doing it yourself - breaking it down, learning how to rebuild and tune it, initially I would make the following suggestions:

First visit the Team Associated website (http://www.teamassociated.com) and download the manual. These manuals give you a step-by-step of the build process and using the manual you can reconstruct it from scratch.

Any parts you need - hit eBay first, if you can't find them there, then Tower Hobbies (http://www.towerhobbies.com). If you can't find what you're looking for, contact Associated directly, they will gladly sell you old parts that are no longer kept in stock by the distributors.

Lastly, the RC 10 forum (http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=76472) on this board has hundreds of fellow RC 10 fans and owners, they will also be glad to help you out in refurbishing this classic.

Like I said, I'll rebuild it for you if you don't want to bother, and could **easily** do so under $200. PM me a message if you decide to go that way, we'll chat.
