I am looking into getting a touring car. When I ask people about the TC4 they say they don't like it. How come? Is there much difference between a tc3 and a tc4? What about the XXX-S

Well there is only one reason why I think other don't like the car, set up from the TC3 are not the same for the TC4. But I would say get the TC4, I love mine and have had mine since the second week of December. And only 1 word comes to mind for me WOW. Getting the TC4 you will no be dissapointed.

Right, don't go solely by what a few people say about any car, everyone has different tastes & needs, & some cars will naturally fit those needs better than others. But having said that, I just finished building my TC4(& I also am among those who've had a TC3 for a long time), & though I haven't had a chance to try it on track yet, I'm still pretty impressed with it, went together quite well, & felt good in its shakedown run. I definitely get good vibes from it....

Alright another TC4 owner.

I have a TC4 that I got at christmas time. I have only raced it a few times, but it seems to respond well to set up changes, and handles well. It is also pretty durable for me so far.
The only complaint I have is the factory bearings suck. The wheel bearings in mine were gritty after just a few times out on the carpet.
Main issues I have read on various boards from various levels of racers:
1. stock chassis and FT graphite chassis have too much flex for carpet racing
2. Too much slop in suspension parts
3. Tranny very free
That is pretty much what I have heard as the problems. Others aren't having those issues or are not noticing them as being issues. I guess it really depends on what you look for, etc.
With my TC3 I know I had some things I didn't like about it, but you couldn't give me a XXX-S after I went from that to a TC3 used. It was just a better car in my hands. With the BMI Chassis conversion, I was in touring Nirvana.
I would say if possible, run someones TC4 and see how you like it keeping in mind its probably not setup like how you would but you can get the feel for it. Check the vehicle out for whatever you think should be there, shouldn't be there, should or shouldn't bend, etc.
Ultimately the decision is yours, so make as informed a choice as possible so you have no suprises.

Do you think the grapihte conversion set should be put on while building it or is it not worth the money

Cain, if the TC4 has the problems well i have not noticed it. Then again I run on Asphalt and ran it twice on carpet seemed fine. None the less the Tc4 is still a good car. :)

If you plan on doing the graphite kit, I would do it while you build, you basically have to rebuild the car if you do it later. If you don't mind wrenching a lot, then just build the car and get the graphite kit later.

I would opt on putting other hop up on the car: aluminim parts, etc. Reason being the graphite parts are more brittle and the standard parts are stronger than the ones for the stock TC3 parts. To me the graphite parts are if you seriously want to reduce the weight of the car. I would stick with the standard parts, they are also alot cheaper than the graphite parts.

I have a T4 and think its great. The T4 shaft drivetrain is brilliant. If you spin the rear wheels all 4 wheels will spin for 5-10 seconds before slowly coming to a stop. I havent noticed any steering slop either. For stock racing, you don't need the graphite. I drove mine stock for a few weeks before upgrading to graphite. I didn't feel much of a difference.
The main reason I bought the TC4 is because there are a lot of AE guys who are going to spend the time and do whatever it takes to make it the fastest thing out there. In a few months, there is going to be a flood of information, hop ups and assistance on how to make them the best touring car for any kind of racing. Eventually, all of that information will work its way down to the club level racer like me.
I just wish they would hurry up!
In the meantime, I havent had too many problems with a couple of the XXXSG's I've been racing against.
Whatever floats your boat. To me, the only thing I find interesting about the TC4 issues that some are having is that the vehicle was designed to correct the few issues that the TC3 had, so you would think you pretty much would have a modded up TC3 with the release of the TC4 but instead you got people complaining because the vehicle isn't responding as you would expect. AE has kind of shot themselves in the foot without having much help for owners out there from what people are discussing.
I would say if I was going to go all out and get some graphite for the TC4, maybe see what BMI has in mind for the TC4 and how soon that will come out. May be a better buy, especially if they do there nice motor mount system. Also, colored graphite is a cool touch. I was pretty impressed by what they made and it was much better than running the AE graphite chassis when I had my TC3.

Why do you defend the TC4 so intensely? People have the right to discuss things on this board, good or bad.

In simple terms, for an average basher and racer, yes the TC4 is ok. But when it comes to top notch racing, the TC4 is not up to par. Yes RH you may think it was designed by God, but I'm sure your not a Dumas, Hara, Francis, Lemiux, Kinwald, Blackstock, Baker, ect... Right now the best car looks like the new Xray.

And I say that without any bias. I even own a TC4.
Honestly no problems here guys. I look at it this way:
There are always going to be people who don't have issues with things and there will be people who have problems. Just because I don't have a problem doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
ultimately, the best approach with any new vehicle, wait 3 - 6 months for the bugs if any to get worked out. If you don't, don't be suprised if there are issues.

That's true, & in fact, that's exactly the approach I took toward both the TC3 & the TC4, I waited about 6 months after they both came out before I decided I'd be interested in buying one, I always like to get an idea of how people I know like a new car, & I'll tend to gather as much info as I can on how they're being set up at the same time, so when I make my purchase, there are usually no surprises....oh, & to ammend what I said in my earlier post, I did get the chance to run my TC4 over the weekend, & while I had a bit of trouble with "traffic"( ;) ), the car was MUCH better than my old TC3 has ever been, felt SO much more planted & stable(though I still have some more setup work to do on it to get it exactly where I want it).....

2005 Snowbird nationals, highest traction carpet track in the world. Mike Blackstock was the fastest man there of all the best drivers in the world. What was he racing? A TC4. Oh but I forgot its dosnt work on carpet, right. He would have won had he not been hacked by Mr. Hudy. That was awsome to watch Barry Baker give hudy a piece of his mind after the race. Almost the start of a good brawl.
Any of the highend cars can be made to work well on any surface. And since none of you are racing at that level the car should be the last thing you should have to worry about.

I run 2 TC3's one with the Factory Graphite chassis and another with the IRS chassis and there both a blast to drive . I have yet to drive a TC4 but if it's any better than the TC3 sign me up, RED

It really depends on how you like a car to feel, but I for one, am definitely liking my first impressions of the new car.... :D
