does anyone know much about the yellow jacket rigger? the plans are available from rc-store. it kind of caught my eye and i'd like to build one up. it's not that i need one...but there's never too many hulls! i've decided that i want to build a few 4 and 6 cell hulls just so i can have them. i figure that if i start building hulls, i can take my time and outfit them with gear throughout the year.

Doc, you're starting to sound as bad as me. How many will that make under construction?

i think it's somewhere around 8. i'm keeping them small...in the 6 cell range so that i can just swap gear between them and cut my costs a little.

What do you want to know about the YJ.....I have all the answers.

i'd like to see some pic's of one, and possibly just hear from someone who ran it. but let me guess, it's your design isn't it? that would be why you have all the answers.

Yes, I designed it some years ago to run on 6 cells and a ROAR stock motor. I really had the new boater in mind who wanted more speed than a mono but didn't want a complex, difficult to set up hydro. I later ran it on 6 cells with a mod 05 and it ran even better. ;)

The same basic boat was built out of carbon fiber by another racer who set several 4-cell records from 45 up to 51 mph with a direct drive 05 motor. If you get the plans I have an update for more speed with "modern" power. Send me your e-mail address and I can send a pic and details.

i was right! i knew it was you. hell, between seeing a climate blizzard and reading your articles in RCBM, that's what got me into FE! trust me, i'll be picking your brain to no end :D well, maybe i won't pick your brain that much, but i've got a lot of ideas and most of them will go on this board before they become reality.

well, i ordered my plans for the yellow jacket. can't wait to get 'em. i'll probably get enough wood to build 2 or 3 and just cut them all up at the same time to save work.

For a SAW boat, lose the rear sponsons. They are there for the average builder who uses a cheap motor and cheap cells - without them the rigger drags its tail too much and overloads the motor. With good power, and especialy for SAW, they are not needed.

once i start cutting and building i'll post some pics of the progress. i also need to make some changes to my blizzard rigger too, but that's an esc issue. is there any hardware that will match this hull well? i've got fuller's on my blizzard...but i'm looking for something different to go on the y. jacket.

I used a combination of home made and aluminum Octura parts on the original. Today I'd use Fuller's "light weight" stuff, if he still sells it; there has been a move to tougher hardware as power and speeds increase.

Fluid, i thought Jay Turner was the maker of JK? I have the plans and rcbm mag. and have built 7 YJ. Jay told me that he has modified the YJ. I will be honest and say the lazer cut of Climates is a easier rigger and he will tell you exactly the motor to use. If it were me a handwound 13/3 Hughey with 130 flex and 130 teflon and a 1732 on 3300- 6- cells and a rc hydros esc 6-14 with bec. You can take the bec out and tape it back and use a 9 volt battery. The cg will be close to midpiont in lenght of rigger, maybe a red hair back. I read where the mono guy said 33% cg, wrong, start at 30% and then if you have to go down , not up. You wull find that 28% is almost to close to call. Monos which have sTRUTS RIGHT ON BOTTOM NEXT TO KEEL SHOULD USE A SMALL PROP BUT KEEP STRUT PARALLEL WITH KEEL. oops. To verify what i have typed, CONTACT the gurus on this forum and they may disagree but i will still use all i have said in and on my boat!!

Fluid, i thought Jay Turner was the maker of JK? So what's your problem DLM? Too much coffee today? ;)

You say you designed the yj? Jay Turner did and has an article im
rcbm mag of 1998 and his plans desinate so. How come you state you designed it. Is your name Jay Turner? it says in black and white on plans Designed by jay Turner-- -- Drawn by jay Turner -- inked plan by joe
demarco--- all rights reserved --- fspb 0991- just setting record straight and is in issue of RCBM Feb 1999. Am i correct or not???

you're right, jay designed it alright. DLM...i like your ideas as far as building a sport boat is concerned. i may look more into that. right now i'm going for all out water boiling fish chopping performance :D however...i'm going to build a few copies of the YJ along with the mono i mentioned in the other thread. the speed versions will look like this: 6 turn trinity drag/lrp esc/gp3300's and wire drive in the YJ. 8 turn double integy motor/rc-hydros esc/gp3300's and wire drive in the mono. that's my story and i'm sticking to it. sport versions of the boats are open to discussion ;)

DML, you haven't been reading this thread very carefully have you? I appreciate your defense of my design, and yes, I actually designed it. Really. The record is straight. Thanks.

I kept racking my brain and it hit me -fluid@alaska.net. I have an old paper dated 01-12-99 and was mailed to Trent-rest his soul- Tripp- Crowe. it was printed at 08:27;33 on Jan 12 1999. It deals with 4-cell performance update. Not to bad for a 69 year old man. Boat Doc, you are in very elite company. it deals with what you are about to do. Lucky !

I need a good 7 cell motor brushed. Not for rigger, moderate deep vee, wooden 22"? Not trying to horn in on Yellow jackets post!

have you looked at www.integy.com ? they have a huge selection of motors and motor parts. i'm waiting on my 8turn double to show up from there right now. they have good prices, even on the hand wound stuff. if you haven't already, check them out.

the wire drive, rudder, and strut on their way from climate. the matched GP 3300's are on their way from integy. i've also got the LRP V7.1 ESC and 12AWG coming from tower...and the plans...well, they may take a while. it's been over 3 weeks since i ordered my mono plans and if that means anything, then it's going to be a while.

I don't thnink that the plans should not take that long to arrive. Check on your order here:
http://www.rcstore.com/rs/orderinfo/getorder.asp
You'll need your reference number which was sent as confirmation of the original order. Or you can contact them here:
http://www.rcstore@airage.com

I have no connection with the plans section other than as the boat designer, this info is off the website. Good luck!
