I think with the 26mm setup, the car doesn't turn as well as with the 24mm setup, if I remember rightly.

Right, the difference in the same compound of tire in 24mm or 26mm won't make a very noticable difference, but the big reason to go with 24mm ones is because all the best rubber compounds(for natural rubber tires) are all in 24mm, most of them slowed or stopped making them for 26mm wheels(though there are still a few available, just not nearly as many as are for 24mm).....

Grizzbob, I was going after the gyro effect of the larger wheel/tire combo in relation to the effect on steering. I was thinking the larger combo would be detrimental (albeit only slightly!) to cornering/turning/acceleration, all other factors being equal, especially tire compound. Am I off base here? Later!

No, you may be right about that, though I think the differences are fairly minor along those lines. In truth, the biggest differences from any one kind of tire to another is in the compound & its total rotating mass(in other words, the total weight of the tire, insert & wheel). And as I said, the vast majority of modern rubber compounds are exclusively made in the 24mm size(as are most of the variety of tire inserts), so you just have many more choices that can give you just the right amount of grip, & because the rotating mass of a 24mm wheel, tire & insert is noticably lower than a 26mm one, the car can accelerate more easily(which is also why foam tires are SO effective for touring cars on carpet tracks, those are THE lightest wheel/tire combo you can get). But you may also have a point about that extra rotating mass becoming more of a problem in a corner, for the reason you mentioned....

Something I started doing on my nitro TC3 and still do today on my electric TC3 is run 24mm tires and inserts on 26mm rims stretching the tire slightly and getting a slightly lower sidewall profile. the logic being the lower profile offers less sidewall flex and a more consistent handling car.

To be completele honest however they only place I could identify a difference was in braking performance. 24mm stretched onto 26mm wheels offered better braking IMHO

that's my $0.02
