I am building a fan car and am waying the options for electronics. I've got a small budget, cause my birthdays coming up. Im thinkin about the traxxas XL-1, every1 say that u have to gear it just right, well, no gears involved. Im buying a 7 cell, and im wondering if I can run a normal motor, i.e a Midnight 2. I've heard a lot of horror stories, so i wanna make sure it'll work.

I was rather shocked how hot my batts got when driving a propeller. The motor got quite hot too, but i think it did not have a meltdown due to the obvious airflow involved.
A stock motor may be fine, but I am using a 14 turn and a cheap speedo would not survive. No question.
Of course I could be having extreme poor propeller slection problems too. I have no clue what I am doing in this deptartment. I did just go buy 5 different size props yesterday to test out. I will tell you which one I find best ...

the battery will get hot because most of the time the motor will be running at full force. (pulling lotsa jucie) Its like if you drive your car or truck with a pinion thats tooo small. when your on the long strait away the engine is revved all the way up and then the batt will get hot. (the pinion in my b3 is tooo small. ;)) traxxas xl-1 should do alright i guess, and i would just set it up so the boat gets pulled instead of pushed. that way all the air will go over the motor and make it cooler.
