well, all my work and money paid off.
i have now finished my camera! all the spectators where i race just pack around my tv to watch the in-car footage. it runs off a 9-volt, and the whole thing minus battery is fitted into an airtronics reciever box! transmits to any tv on channel 16 within 800 feet, it is b&w, but it has surprisingly good quality, ill post a link to some footage once i get enough online.

Wow, that sounds really cool. Tell us a little more though, like:

How much did the setup cost you?
What parts did you use?
How inventive did you have to get to fit things into your...wait...what type of car was it again?

Sweet, sounds pretty cool. I tried mounting my dads X10 cam on my T3 but I got alot of static. Perhaps it was the batteries in the cam. I dunno. I'll have to try again sometime. I was cool in the clear scenes, but not when it was static'ie. Can't wait to see those vids! Tell us more!

i have it mounted in my custom super nitro rally, (which i race against super-tens), its 3X2 inches, (in a reciever case), plus the attached 9-volt and antenna. i build these SLOWLY and sell them for a small profit. just yesterday i sold one to a guy who wanted to find ou what was happening in his house while he was at work. i gutted a tv remote, and installed it there. the camera lens is where the emitter lens would normally be, and yo cant tell it apart from a normal remote at all. and he hides a vcr attaches to an antenna in his dresser to catch the footage. who would suspect a tv remote to be a surveilence device? lol
i am going to make a compilation of my wreck footage.. rollovers look so cool. everyone gets excited when i have a close call, or when im battling the leader back and forth for the win.
the display makes the rc's look almost like real race cars.
i sell these things for about $175, it depends on what kind of case you want. i can install it in practically anything. hopefully ill have some footage online soon

So where did you get the parts to make it from? I'd almost be tempted to pay you $175 for one, but I jsut like to build the stuff too much. If you don't mind...

If you could boost the range a bit I would put one in my airplane!

Gubbs3, someone actually sells a video camera for planes and it costs like $300.Dont know who makes it I just saw it in an add in a magazine. Evilgearhead, you could use it and press record while it's on the t.v. BTW:you'll need to have a video in it.lol

so can we see some footage?

i'd like to install such a system on my NMT (maybe in the summer when i have funds). i'd want a camera that transmitted a strong color signal for 200+ feet. i'd also like to have the camera transmit to a pair of Sorny Glasstrons.

RC-Cam.com (http://www.rc-cam.com/) <--- GOOD WEBSITE ABOUT THIS STUFF

I've installed my Plantraco cam/transmitter on my Evader for while to play around with... ALOT OF FUN!!!

Sounds like something I'd like to try. I've seen a website where this guy has a whole bunch of in car footage. Actually is was mounted on his T-Maxx. I'll see if I can find the site again.

As most of us in RC are by definiton "gadget guys" this project holds a ton of fascination. What a cool idea!!! Obviously this has been around for a while for the "above the ground" group but to build it for a car/truck would be too much fun.

Knightshift.... thanks for the URL to the RCcam site... very informative....

Hmmmmmm..... now off to investigate.....

I used the wireless color cam from Microtek ( http://www.microcameras.com/ )

It broadcasts over UHF channel 14. With a pocket TC (i.e. Casio) mounted via ball pivot on your radio it offers an interesting perspective on things. When driving among crowds all you see is feet and ankles :)

I dont have any footage as i need to get a camcorder to record output. Picture quality and range is pretty good, and it also needs a similar 9V battery supply. The main drawbacks are lack of peripheral vision, no audio, and depth perception is hard to see on such a small screen. Not recommended for driving fast through the camera unless you have some sort of a larger screen or a panoramic view.

This is the camera mounted in my Tamiya 1850L delivery truck. The driver's head is hooked to the 6th channel of my futaba 6YG radio which has a rotating knob to turn the head left-right. The camera is so small it is inside the driver's head. You might notice the lens peeping out of the left eyeball.

i like the idea of using one of those pocket tv's mounted right to the transmitter w/ a ball swivel mount. that's a great idea. w

what i'd like to do, is take a video signal being transmitted from a car and feed that to the Sorny Glasstrons: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1316126162

pretty cool? using the Glasstrons would likely require some kind of a receiver to get the signal from the car. i'm not sure if those little pocket tv's have RCA outputs on them.
