View Full Version : Tips on painting (first time)

I usualy have someone paint my body with all the cool graphics and stuff but this time i don't want to do it. Since i got my XXXT i just want to paint the body that came in the kit one color. Then when i get the new GMC Pro-Line body i will go out and have a kick azz paint job done. Any hoo i need some help on painting and what do i need to do (like scuff the underneath) the color i have picked is an Redish Orange color. Thanx for the help

1. Clean the body with warm water and dish soap to remove any oils (ie finger prints)
2. Mask off all the windows.
3. Place the body on the car and mark the mounting holes with a washable marker on the outside.
4. Spray a light first coat of paint. The lighter the better because this will keep any paint from bleeding under the masking.
5. Apply a few more light coats letting it dry completely between coats.
6. Remove the masking and trim the body.
7. Use a fine grit sandpaper to round off any sharp edges (this will prevent tearing and cracking)

I use an airbrush with parma's faskolor paints, but you can get a descent paint job with a spray can. The most important thing is to be patient and paint in light coats and let it dry thoroughly between coats. That way there won't be any runs in the paint.
