Years ago ( about 20 ) I purchased my first hobby R/C car. It was a Tamiya Grasshopper. It was fun to build and fun to run , I put a lot of miles on that thing. Horrible handling by today's stabdards, yet I still loved it. Tamiya has decided to reissue it's big brother, the Hornet.
Anyone know when this is going to be available? I see it is already out on the British web sites, nothing stateside yet? I would love to buy one and build it for nostalgic purpose. It comes with a ESC now too!
Thanks,
Josh

I like the scale looks of the older buggies. New cars don't look like anything, but they do perform....

ebay, loads of them there
EDIT> I've been toying with the idea of selling mine. It's 100% vintage and I still have the manual speed controller and original transmitter/receiver package for it also!

I have thought these were the coolest looking buggies ever since I seen one in my cousins house many years ago! I'm definitely going to get one of these buggies.
Think it could handle Novak 5800BL power?

This was my first RC kit back in the day!! I may get one just for the sake of it. Let it sit on a shelf or something. Ohhh the memories!! :D

I'm definitely getting one when Tower gets them... then I'm gonna have to find extra tires and bodies.

... love em but too bad Tamiya isnt going to be selling them for spare parts. :( This car will spend most of its life on the shelf, but I'd like to have a spare set so I can atleast drive the thing once in a while and have a new shelf set!

Just a reminder to watch the lingo. The last thing we need is People getting mad at eachother for words another member had used. You guys know the drill, its all good.

It was my third RC. After some hopups it was pretty competitive (Parma aluminim oil shocks, alum nerfa bars, anti skid system), Thorp hardened gears and axles, Hot Trick front shock tower, used Advanced wheel adaptors with alum wheels. It was raced in dirt oval using a modified wedge body, offroad using a Parma body made for the Hornet and put on Subaru Brat tires for playing in the street.
Tamiya went thru a period where they stopped making the Hornet, later introduced the Super Hornet but also there was a period where almost no Tamiya vehicles or parts could be gotten so car was put away and forgotten. While sorting thru some things I found it along with the Newman Haas and Toyato Tom cars.

Ahhhh the old Hornet. It was my first too. Might have to look into one just to bang around the back yard. Anyone know how past of a motor you can put in those things. I know its 540 size, but I know they have plastic gears and a gear diff too, so I don't want to trash the gearbox.

I'd imagine they're pretty strong, after all it is Tamiya.
I want to try my Novak Brushless in one.
