It doesn't draw ants. We used straight soda at Fernando's for three straight days, not any ants.

Ants only like things they can carry away, lol. Once it adheres to the asphalt it ain't going anywhere :D .

Grapesoda doesn't attract ants. We have a large population of fire ants around the TC track, and after spraying it NO ANTS were ever seen on the asphalt. I think all of them gathered under my tent and attacked my feet

I want to thank everyone that showed up today for coming out to race our summer bash with us. Most of the racing went well today except for some mistakes on my part. I want to apologize to Will and Bill for not having a drivers meeting and explaining what packing the mains means. Apparently some drivers heard me say we were going to pack the mains and some did'nt. Second mistake was not stopping the stock main and waiting to see what the weather was going to do. All of the STOCK drivers that raced today have a free race at the WOOD next time you come out to race with us. My apologies to those drivers for mismanaging things. I hope some of you had a good time today. Congrads to the winners:
George Ryles in Mini Cooper, Anthony Saunders in Stock, and Mike Laruso in Mod.

Glenn- I had a BLAST in the Stk. Main!! If we had waited then the Mod guys would more than likely not got to run at ALL. Ask Steve B. and JP what happened 2mins after you pulled off...

For once it didn't come down to who had the the "right tire", KILLER motor, Awesome Batteries and 2 million laps on the same layout.....It came down to the people that adapted to the condition the fastest. I thought that is what racing is!?!? How much fun would NASCAR be if ever week they ran the same track, for 500 miles for 36 weeks?

Also the track was the SAME for everyone. The ones that ran and finished the race ALL came off teh stand with a SMILE on their face and a laugh on the stand..... I know I did..... "Tag stop trying to pull my finger off the trigger!"

Also if you look at the results the same guys were up front in the main that were there ALL day.

So again Thanks Glenn!

The above words may be of a bais opinion! LOL

JimmyMac
09-18-2005, 11:04 PM
I agree. It was a fun main. Just wish I didn't pike it and let Anthony and Tag zoom/slide past by me!!! haha. But still.. it was a blast. I just wish more american tracks would race in the rain like the European RC tracks do. Maybe that's another reason why they are kicking our butts in Touring Cars.... At least the TCS races race in the rain as long as there is no standing water. That's how my main was in Maryland last year! Anywhoot...

Congrats to all the winners. Good run in Mod Mike. Mini's was fun too. George won it like he said he would! Gotta get Tom out here to run them! I hear there are more Mini's (from women!) out there too. That's good. A little bird told me a certain boy (who did the durability test on my car during the 2nd qualifier) is getting one too... ;)

Anyways, catch yall next weekend. Oh Glenn, if ya can.. I'd like to try out a new Protoform body (PF1479) for carpet season. It's new, so it may be hard to get a~hold of right now.

Hey all... Just a little FYI with all this carpet chat going on. We are planing a Winter Express North South Shot Out down here come Nats time as a Nats warm up type race and we plan on it being just as big as the spring race. Date TBA location will be Rosewood-Glen's Hobby near Goldsboro NC. Real nice indoor carpet. Let's see if those northern boys got anything for us southern fella's. Were looking to pull some great names to this event as like the last time. So if you feel you got something make plans to show or we'll know you scared!

Billy, Glenn has the aluminum steering knuckles for the Mini's. Remember, TCS rules for the Mini's which means you need Tamiya parts. Glenn can get them all. Also, what do you mean turnbuckles? You can only change the steering tierods. Not the camber links. So far Glenn has most of the hopups for the Mini's. Shocks, ball diffs, tires, and aluminum steering knuckles.

Maybe 1 or 2 will leave DRCW. Someone from there always shows up for carpet. But never asphalt. Anyways, maybe it'll be time to dust off the ole 12th scale for this race? hehe..

Hmm, not trying to upset anyone but why would you need turnbuckles anyhow on the mini? Seems to me once the steering is set, you usually don't have to move it again. Also, if it doesn't have a Tamiya part number on it, it isn't leagal. And where are we gonna get inserts for these things?? Glenn tried both Great Planes and Horizon, and neither have inserts, or "foam inner liners" for the mini's.

All this aside, man these things are a blast to run. I wish we had done this years ago.

For those who want a live audio link to the Vegas race, here it is... http://www.iic-live.com/

Good run today guys. Someone's gotta take out George next time! Both classes! My day was blah... My battery flew out in the main with all the tangling I did in Touring. And my Mini... haha... I ran a flat tire in the main. Bad idea! Glenn and Laurie both got a new lap record in Mini with 12 laps!! Laurie was hitting 25sec lap times with a new motor he just bought from Glenn! Anyways, I bought some new tires for the Mini. This time I'll run inserts.... No more 2 piece tires for me! At least not til carpet season.... :D

Anyways, sounds good John and Brando. Sounds like this'll be a huge race. Talked alittle with Glenn about pit space. He said it would be okay to use the "new" extention to the building if the hobby shop is not finished by then.

Well lemme head out. Gonna build up the TA05 for next weekend.... The EvoIV is done for asphalt racing. Time to switch out to the new chassis and get it ready for carpet. The Evo ran okay with a slow 8turn today for practice. Blah blah blah.....

no matter, Dial up sucks big time.
So, I take it I don't have to sit behind the computer screen at this race? Hmm, maybe I can actually practice some,,,,,

Uhh, looking at the flyer, you might want to specify Johnson or Mabuchi motors only for Mini's. Looks like someone might show up with a Monster stock in his mini and have a cow if he can't run it.

The Race is a 1 day Saturday show with Friday as a practice day, The reason for not running into sunday is we can get this done in 1 day and allows travel time for those driving over 6+ hours ex.NJ,Tenn,pa ect..

Reg Maryland was a 1 day show and you went...cough cough

We did this in NJ for our Outdoor on road race and had 128 enteries we started at 11am and were done with trophys at 8pm so still time to go out or get on the road for monday work..We had great feedback from that deal so the same format goes here too..

09-29-2005, 10:39 AM
Reggie- it's $40 with a pre entry, but there will be some cool door prizes and things you may win. AND, there's some awesome TQ awards that aren't cheap, and the plaques are of top notch. I promise Tag isn't trying to make money, but when you figure the door prizes, TQ awards, plaques, hiring a pro race director, and Glenn get shis cut for each entry (only fair) , it doesn't leave room for club level entries.

But I promise you with the response of driver caliber, this will be far from a club race. Although it's only verbal commitment, so far, we have Cuffs, Denton, EA, Skeen, Williams, Lufaso will probably come. Hopefully I can drag Lemieux out of the woodwrok as well. It will be the best crop of talent the wood has had in there at one time for one race.

Tag, can I just hand you my entry next time I see ya? I want Stock Touring for now.

Good run today guys. TA05 did pretty good. Connecting with other cars and corner dots in the first few laps of the main loosened up my front spool. So I ended up pulling the car in. But watching the rest of the main was fun. Anyways, car was great. Drives alot smoother than my EvoIV. I was even able to get the heavy plastic car under Roar weight!! At 53.4oz. Rosewood is 53oz rule. I think Roar is 53.7 according to Tag. JP paid me $5 just to get his car legal and up to Roar weight.. hehe..

John Piant made some major improvements today. Goin from consistant 21 sec laps into consistant 20 sec laps with just a change or 2 to the car. Nice job John!! Don't give up on carpet just yet!! ;)

Mini's were fun too. I think the best fun was after racing when we started to run around the pit wall.. haha.. We can blame Laurie for that one.. :p

Well I say let's run Rubber Tire on carpet. This way everyone doesn't have to go out and buy foams. Just setup the car with 2 or 3 degrees rear toe... and go from there. Best to use traction compound on the tires too. Or you'll slide everywhere. Anyways, that's just my opinion. It'll make for a fun day of racing. Getting ready for carpet-

Well I plan on comming down every other Saturday to run carpet when the track goes to carpet. A few questions though--

-- which traction compound is the best for the track?
-and just to clarify, when does carpet season begin??

I am planning on coming down a week from Saturday for outdoor action if I can make it and I'll talk to everyone then. Basically every other Saturday I need to work at the store and the weekend between I can race.

Thats all.

Not sure if he has it yet Cheer......but it is what most guys run. I used to mail order it but lately I have been to other tracks that carry it and have picked it up there.

Last he told me was that he had only Jack the gripper and Paragon FX2. You may want to inform him now if you would like him to get some for the carpet season, it's what you'll see in everybody's pit. It's the easiest to use as well. Put in on, leave it for 10 min, then run, no messy wiping or rags.

Cheer, carpet season opens Nov 5th. Yes we will run MINI's on the rug. I opened an account with Niftech on Brandons and Lauries suggestion and have plenty of compound AND all of their other items on the way. Basically, we don't allow any compound that has a smell to it, ie wintergreen smell. It gives some people head aches. I also have parma and jaco tires coming in for carpet.
Remember, if you get your MINI from me, you get a free race night with it.
Thanks for the questions, hope to see you on the asphalt or the rug soon. Tag says the North-South shoot out is shaping up. Get your entree in soon.

I would get my entry in.. But Tag keeps avoiding my question... Tag.. can I hand you my entry the next time you race at the Wood? :p

I'm not sure if Glenn has FXII... I thought it was Traction Action (Paragon's odorless version). Or he may have both... Either way, I've been using Niftech.

Anyways, back to Ghost Hunters on SciFi... they are in Mansfield, OH where I used to live... haha

Well, I don't know Jimmy, but it looks like I was right! So there!!! :p

Had a blast today with the mini, glad to see Jimmy Wilson out there again. Had the new car jitters, motor not compleatly broken in and such, but did a good job first time out with his new mini. A little more time with it and he'll be up in the pack looking for a win soon.

Stock was fun to watch with all the cars running what looked like pretty good laps.

what, 2 more weeks then it's carpet time. See ya'll later!!

Jimmy, how does the BD do on carpet? Is there too much flex, or does it do fine with foamies on the rug?

Chad, the BD in stock class is fine. But in 19t or Mod, there's too much flex. You'd need to get ahold of Mach10Shooter (I think that's his name, something like that) on RCTech. He has a custom chassis with no cutouts and thicker for the BD on carpet. I think it was $90 shipped with top deck too? I seen one up in MD a few months back. It was stiff. Only problem is the car width with foams. It's close to or a hair over 190mm... Actually... lemme check real quick. Oh, and best to use Parma foams due to offset. If you don't... Jaco's will rub on the knuckles unless if you use axle hex shims like the Tamiya ones... Okay, the check showed the wheels are just a hair over 190mm pending on camber and toe. Maybe 1mm over.. maybe. Also, you'd need to run the newer rear 2degree block. Newer version since this allows you to lower the block (take out the shims under the block). The older version sits 1mm higher (I think it's 1mm). Then you'd need to run the 1dgree rear hubs reversed Left to Right... Right to Left.

Anways, when I ran it earlier this year, it was pretty good in Stock. I just wish Yokomo and Tamiya were more carpet friendly. Although I think Tamiya is noticing this after Marc R won the Vegas race in Mod Foam class. So they are actually working on a front diff for the 415.. and maybe a 4mm carpet chassis....

Blah blah blah... hope this helps... Anymore questions just ask... :D

10-16-2005, 01:11 PM
So if it's over 190mm, then I can't run at a roar race?

Are you talking about the 2* block that comes with the BD? Also, by reversing the rear hubs, would that give me 1* less toe-in then what the rear block is? Like reversed hubs and a 3 degree block would give me 2 degree rear toe-in?

Also, do jaco foams rub on the c-hub or the carrier? Can I dremel the carrier to make them have full steering throw?

bmelton
10-16-2005, 04:59 PM
Chad- Parma tires are offset wider than Jaco's. I always have to dremel my steering blocks, but it takes what, 2 secs.

JimmyMac
10-16-2005, 08:08 PM
Chad, Parma foams front is like 191mm, Parma Rear is 189mm. I'd be surprised if anyone can tech that close... but ya never know. As for Jaco... yes, you need to grind down the steering knuckle (where the steering linkage connects on the knuckle) or.... cut the wheel down from 28mm to 26~27mm wide... or (I'm tossing on foams on the yok right now and measuring them hehe...) use Tamiya Red axle shims (but that'll put your width to 192mm). It's a pain to run a Yok on carpet. For Tamiya, you just simply use narrow suspension blocks to bring the width down to 190 or less. But if you have a tire truer, some say it's very easy to just narrow the tire down to 27mm. All you need would be a razor blade. Let the tire spin, then carefully press the razor down onto the tire until it cuts that end off.

As for the 2* block.. the BD came with a 3? block I thought. And for the Yok, it's very hard to get under 2degrees since that is as low as they go for aluminum blocks (unless if you use the plastic 1degree suspension block, but that sits too high for carpet). So using the 2degree block with reversed rear 1degree hubs will give you 1degree rear toe. If you ground down a plastic 1degree block and reversed the 0.5dgree rear hubs you'll get........ ;)

CCapece
10-16-2005, 08:18 PM
If I'm just looking for .5 degree toe-in, then couldn't I use the R 0degree block in the front and rear mounts for the rear arms, and run the .5degree hubs on the correct sides?

I'll only race offroad if we get a class of 4wd Mod out there... :D Nah... I'll probably be working that day.. haha..

Chad, what R 0degree block? Are you talking about a BD or SD? BD doesn't have a "front" rear blocks. They are more of a "single" block per arm (CGM style). They are fixed and don't determine toe. The only blocks on the car that determine toe is the rear/rear block. To my knowledge, they only come in 3.0/2.5/2.0 aluminum. And 3.0/2.0/1.0 plastic. Not even the front/front block is compatible in the rear. So you can't cheat with that like you could on a TC3/4 using the front/rear block on the rear/front.

Hey, I'm not working this weekend. Guess I get to race...

You can start there and we'll tune it accordingly...

Hmmm yeah, good question Hank. Can we use brushless in 12th Mod? Which reminds me.... I still have to send in my GTX to Novak to replace the casing that I broke up in MD haha...

I know Laurie said he was gonna make a few joints (sorry Ron, not your kind of joints.. haha) for the track. But he was unsure if he could make it out during the week to help out on the layout.

John... stock 1/12th? Why not Mod?? hehe I have an 8x2 V2 I could build up for ya if you need one for the class... :D I'm actually thinking on converting my 1/12th scale for carpet. Maybe I can get ahold of an Xenon chassis or something... I'll have to ask Steve Wang from Speedtech if he can get me one... If not, maybe I'll just order up a RC12L4 chassis... Hmmmm
